Plastic in Cambodia's sea - The Guardian

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Plastic in Cambodia's sea - The Guardian

Post by Makewa »

Looking down into the water that lies beneath the ramshackle houses of Sihanouk, Cambodia, it is hard to imagine that the sea is there at all. Instead, there is dense layer upon layer of plastic waste clogging the water, piling up around poles that support the wooden homes, carpeting the beach....

If you enjoy noise pollution and obnoxious driving practices, Phnom Penh is the place for you!

Didn't Sihanoukville win the 'most beautiful city' award sometime in last few years??

Judges must have missed the spots in the images shown in story.

The rubbish collection on land also seems to be struggling.

If things dont improve the rainy season is going to be a mess!

Didn't Sokha say they had a waste burner? Seem to recall big fanfare on the intertubes about it and then nothing. What Shv really needs is a waste-to-electric generator, that way there would be some sort of cash incentive to collect all the shit up. You could stick it up on the hills with a big chimney so all the toxic fumes wafted over to Vietnam. A win for everyone.

I must have lived here long enough - when I see the word sea I always think it should be capitalised as an acronym.

Using acronyms is a capital offence.

Ha! THAT'S not rubbish. It's actually a commissioned artwork and has been in place for years!
