Phnom Penh Centric Forums ?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

The forums seem to talk about issues and teh FB pages more about social activities and food places, or is this just my take?

What would cause this, if indeed it is as I see it ?
facebook is people chatting/sharing with each other an not hiding behind some random user name

Forums ( at least k440 and ceo) are 50% good an 50% pure shit ( which is the way most threads evolve into) with random attacks on each other

start a topic an right away its shit
Really? Have you seen local Facebook pages lately? Half the Kampot/Kep posts are people telling each other they're cheaters and throwing very public tantrums. Just as pathetic as the forums if not more. The other half of the posts are businesses (which is fine) or newcomers asking where to buy dish soap. Battambang is slightly better, not sure about Siem Riep as I never joined it.

BKL is right to a degree.

I was always the reason 440 was going downhill, according to The Bangla Prophet, first because of puns, and secondly because of 'personal attacks' (defending myself when I was allowed to).

Then he and others started making puns, so that was then 'acceptable'. Now that I seldom post there, they just attack other people, especially when they are banned.

But here is better than Facebook because no one knows us. We can say freely and we can discuss many things. In Facebook , I just click" like", most of my comment is cute! Image... hehehe...

I'm English but I've lived in so many places, thanks to an itinerant lifestyle from my parents, a number of school expulsions and an international career that I no longer (if I ever did) feel like I come from anywhere at all.

Comparing posters preferences for Facebook or Forums, and SR against PP, as an example.

Talking, very, very generally (please, do not nit pick)

PP a higher number of Ex-pats who work in the business sector. i.e Lawyers (Down Vlad) Accountants and Teachers who have gigs in teh corporate or Government sectors.

SR retired , small tourist based business owners or college TEFLers

Therefore is might be reflective this that SRers seem to favour the more open Facebook pages and PPers the distanced, anonymity of the forum.

As an example, someone as a figure head in the local business community, can slip onto a forum and wax lyrical about 'Twatfunnels' ad nauseam, they, lunch over, slip back into the corporate world without a care. Facebook would not offer the same level of anonymity and so not allow this social release.

The more relaxed life style in SR (generally) and the lack of high power, high pressure professionals, means those there do not need to seek the same release and might just join Hanno on a nice walk or do a Tai Chi class.

In what way is FB less anonymous than forums? I have a FB account under the same name as here. But I rarely post on FB because I hate FB with a burning passion. There are so many things I dislike about FB it's really too much to list. But to name one, if forums started rearranging posts according to what they think I want to read, I wouldn't post on forums either. Probably also something of a habit. I was posting on forums years before FB was invented. Don't see any reason to change and lots of reasons not to change.

Good point, but more people on FB use real world names, as just a general rule of thumb

I see FB as a way to stay in touch with family and friends (hence reason u use ur name so OLD lost friends can find you) all over , you wouldn't use a forum as all friends do not have the same interest

2 weeks ago i had an old gf from back in the 60's reach out to me, If i had not my real name there, she would not have found me
Glad she did :-)

Forums are something i participate in
and when i open CEO it goes to view new threads
and can than choose which ones i want to view

MY fb is set up to post newest post for all all groups i am a member of an my friends

That reminds me, we picked up two rescue dogs from PPAWS the other day, one has PTSD and keeps jumping up and snapping at people, and the other is a quadruple amputee, I suspect from landmines. I called the first one Syndrome and the other Cigarette.

Before I leave the house I yell "Down, Syndrome!" and then take Cigarette for a drag.

Good points. And probably more of the reasons I don't use FB. I keep in touch with friends and family the old fashioned ways (phone, talk, email) and have no particular desire for people I have forgotten to dig me up. I'm not very social.
