UK pension reciprocal agreement or not...
Does one have to register with the UK Embassy in Cambodia to comply with ER Visa application ? Problem being that the UK freezes any increases for British Citizens (if they know you are in Cambodia). Can one avoid this?
Re: UK pension reciprocal agreement or not...
@PSD-Kiwi will give the lowdown o ER Visa applications, but that's the first I heard of registering with the UK Embassy for anything other than trying to get a Chevening Scholar pass or whatever nonsense they get up to nowadays.

I'm an ER holder and a UK passport holder and on a pension. Simple answer, no you do not need to contact UK embassy in any way. The ER process is entirely Cambodian rules and regulations. Just find a reliable agency and do it.

As long as you realise that I’d guess you are breaking the law by declaring that you are resident in the UK but are in fact living long-term in Cambodia.
I found out the hard way that these days countries’ governments share huge amounts of data about tax, foreign residents and pensioners.

Re: UK pension reciprocal agreement or not...
A lot depends on whether you have other income in the UK (eg renting out your home there) and whether you need to do a self-assessment tax return. In some cases it can be beneficial to register as non-resident.
But as for the original question, you don't have to contact or register at the Embassy.

Re: UK pension reciprocal agreement or not...
Your Embassy has nothing to do with Cambodian Immigration policies and procedures, no need to register with your Embassy to apply for an ER EOS. As to the rest of the stuff, no idea.

Not necessarily breaking the law. Law is more than half a year makes you resident.jah steu wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 12:42 am As long as you realise that I’d guess you are breaking the law by declaring that you are resident in the UK but are in fact living long-term in Cambodia.

If you don't stay anywhere for more than half a year the default will be the country you have "more ties to". This is a grey area.
A yearly visa does not imply residency

Ah, interesting. I vaguely remember this residency rule from decades ago, so I guess it’s still in force.cautious colin wrote: Not necessarily breaking the law. Law is more than half a year makes you resident.

I am a pensioner, a holder of an ER, and a passport from the United Kingdom. To put it simply, no, you are under no obligation to get in touch with the British embassy. All of the rules and procedures governing the ER process are Cambodian. Identify a trustworthy agency and go ahead and do it.
