overcoming adversity and creating positive change

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

overcoming adversity and creating positive change

Post by truffledog »

A quite inspiring father and son story that turned into a very good business model. Starting from their own adversity (the son loosing both legs on a train accident) they developped a vision of a world where innovation provides limb wearers a choice of affordable, reliable and desirable prosthetic products and services. Sure there is a market/demand (what an ugly word under such circumstances) in Cambodia for these products and services in the KOW.

video 17min:

I am well aware about the difficulties involved in bringing 1st world technology into a 3rd world country, but its not impossible. There surely are cheaper solutions and loads of competitors, but this approach stands out for its simple procedures and innovation applied . Financing/funding (incl. something for your living) those prosthetics will be a killer taks but also not impossible. The tecnology involved is managable even in/from Cambodia. If I had no job and loads of time I would give it a try. If you cant help all the victims of mines or other accidents, just start with one.

I HAVE NO PERSONAL INTEREST IN THE COMPANY. I AM JUST SHARING A POSITIVE STORY (and thinking loudly)
work is for people who cant find truffles

Thanks for sharing this. I googled the website of the company, https://prosfit.com/products and was able to learn a bit more about it.

I haven't been to Cambodia yet because plans are all on hold now due to the virus spread, but this looks like it could possibly take off in Cambodia with the number of amputees I hear are there. Hope things settle down soon so good ideas like this can incubate and grow.
