It's Over

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

As a dude you don't want to be settling down and having kids before you're 30 anyhow. Your brain is still wired up like a child's until you are 25. Catholic northerners for you

tbh i agree, and i think in this day in age, people dont need to grow up so quick and settle down so early, i still feel like im 21, in Thailand/Cambodia i feel like im 18, most of my friends are in their 40's/50's
i come back to England and all my generation of friends and even my younger brothers generation now, are all "old" and "grown up", and they see my lifestyle and tell me how jealous they are,
and im in Asia and i see blokes in their 40's and 50's and even 60's still living the dream and doing what im doing, which just encourages me i guess

everyone has different dreams;

I know some people that have never left there home state and are very very happy with their lives and living their dreams
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

i never specified what that dream was?
in the loosest form, its just blokes living out their lives in a nice hot tropical country surrounded by wonderful culture etc, instead of being stuck back in their dull motherlands

in a more direct form to me, i go out and see blokes of said age, going out and still doing exactly what im doing, which goes to my point, theres no rush to grow up

me and my sisters husband talk about this (including your point) as his "dream" is the family settled down marriage life,

i thought with this being an expat forum of a southeast asia, most people that would be discussing this was a little bit more adventurous than the average joe back home... :thumb: 8)

I don't intend to judge, but I think your time in service merits a Purple Heart and at least a Bronze Star.

I used to feel like that. Now I feel like slowly setting concrete. But, I'm determined not to rest on my laurels for too long. Been nearly three years back livin in the Penh now. Maybe I'll try China for a look see.

yeah my comment was mainly saying about richards point
when i said i see blokes living the dream out here and him saying people dont all have the same dream and pointed out people living the average joe lifestyle at home,
and me pointing out people who have chosen to live their lives out in a different country,
whether that be mongering in bars every night or settled with a spouse and kids, are living a lot more adventurous dream than the average joe and is one i aspire to

more to your point, whenever im back in England i get people saying
"youre 30 now, when you going to settle down and have a wife and kids, youre getting old!!"
then i come back to Asia and i get people saying
"oh your only 30?! youre still young!! Go fucking enjoy yourself you got plenty of time to settle down!!"

They are old tedious c&%ts on online forums jamie, they prefer to talk about local politics over your interesting (parallel) choice to work blue collar and spent in SEA.
