How many members have visited the Euro Park at Borey Peng Huoth, Chbar Ampov. Well worth the visit, it's actually pretty peaceful without any large crowds. You can gaze upon Big Ben, Eiffel Tower and the Sidney Oprah House, and the show stopper is now in the background well under construction.

Well imo I think it's a cheap shot (metaphorically speaking coz it would've cost a buck) and downright disrespectful of the thai Le Palais (sic) hotel on Koh Phangan to stoop to this. Recreating a mini Angkor for commercial purposes. Tacky slogans like “Discover the pride of Angkor”, “Monumental smiling face, famous carving, Bayon is the last state to be built at Angkor. Over thousand large faces alias the famous smile of Angkor.”

And I agree with what @nerdlinger said, I don't see the Eiffel tower or Statue of liberty on the same scale of significance culturally.

Sort of reminds me of the attitude of the thai sellers in Pattaya post255399.html#p255399

You'd think the resort owners could've used one of their own cultural emblems to mimic. I wonder how they would've gone if they'd used the theme of Wat Arun or the king's palace? =@

Ha ha indeed - including the one at Europark in Phonom Penh, which also has the replicas of windmills and the Sydney Opera house - and not forgetting the faux arc de triomphe on Koh Pich

Koh Phangan Hotel apologises for Angkor Wat façade

A hotel in Koh Phangan has issued an apology after Cambodian netizens were outraged by its use of Cambodian cultural icons, including the famous Angkor Wat, as building decoration, which they deemed inappropriate.

“We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused you and would like to clarify the vision from our founder’s heart and intention,” Le Palais Hotel wrote on its Facebook page on Sunday.

“Le Palais Hotel Koh Phangan was inspired by the greatness of Angkor Wat located in Cambodia. Cambodia is the motherland of our founder and always have a special place in his heart. Thailand is the second home where he found the peace of mind in the land of smile.

“We launched the hotel humbly only for the admiration, appreciation and passion for the magnificent art. The construction, decoration here were handmade & heart-made by Thai and Cambodian teamwork. Nonetheless the greatness will always remain to the great Angkor Wat and will never be compared.”

Le Palais Hotel could not be reached for further comment, but the Bangkok Post found it has been closed in the wake of coronavirus pandemic and looked after by its neighbours. The hotel is owned by a Cambodian couple of whom the husband has obtained French nationality, and a Thai shareholder.

Ah right, so the owners are khmers and that gives them licence to appropriate their nation's cultural heritage in their chosen second home for commercial purposes.

Yeah right. For art only.. Where I come from that is called 'brown nosing' after they've been outed.

Sounds like trying to eat your cake and have it too with 3 nationalities..
