I used to drive one of our tuk-tuks out there weekly for a program we were involved in. I wouldn't consider doing it as a tourist for quids - as others have said, that's a dangerous road with plenty of Lexus and bus drivers happy to literally shove you off the road at high speed. I don't know if the roadworks are complete, but they were some of the nastiest I'd seen up to a year ago (when I stopped the weekly trip).

Rent a moto for the day, it's a straight road, easy and takes no time at all. It's nice there but don't plan on being there too long, it's just nice, decent views, it's worth seeing. Rent a cheap moto for $5 and a half tank of fuel, maybe a bite to eat, all told $10. Enjoy!

I got there by Boat. I rented out the Mekong Flower boat with a group of friends. Left at 9:30am and got back late evening. The most enjoyable part was the boat trip. We had the 20 person boat and renting it for the whole day was about $150 so worked out nice and cheap, as there was over 25 of us.They provide ice and a speaker just make sure to bring lots of beer.

You can then get a tuk tuk from the river and back to Uodong for about $4 return

Yep, except for the 'over 25 people in a 20 person boat' part.

I only ever went to Oudong for work, but I really can't imagine there'd be enough demand for that! It's nice, but there are plenty of other places where monkeys steal your stuff once you've climbed a mountain, as entertainment.

The idea of running a boat trip up/down any of the rivers, and then tuk-tukking it to the nearby attractions is a good one though. Especially if you put decent food and crappers on the boat. This is starting to sound like an episode of The Love Boat. Let's get Vlad to be Captain Stubing.

the rivers here are an entirely neglected area of operation for foreign tourism day trips.
all the infrastructure already exists for lots of trips- it is just not well marketed to foreigners.

all the pub cruises are well attended and the Kien Svay trips formerly organized by JM, Felgerkarb, and Tara river boats were a lot of fun, and pretty inexpensive.
For sure there is the seed of a business here.

You would have to start small and do weekends I think.
the various pubs would all pitch in as part of a day out I think.

And the market for longer leisure trips is almost monopolised by the luxury tour companies that run Mekong Pandaw etc.

Would be an idea to organise a long leisure trip or kayaking from Kratie or beyond to the Mekong Delta, but I expect it would involve a big capital outlay
