Other places

Because i am now officially no longer a Dad, at least in my own mind, my thoughts are turning further afield.

I lived in Indonesia for 4 years, speak the lingo, like the people etc.

I was astounded to see that a regional Sumatran city is quite inexpensive compared to Cambodia

like 1/2 the price.
see it here or unparsed data below.
special note for engrish teechers---> the pay is high and so is the demand.

i went thru medan back in the 80's would never ever choose to live there

Lake Toba area on the other hand would be nice

BUT for the life of me cant understand why u dont go to your friend's pace in Northern Thailand

cheaper than Cambodia
better food
more things available
easy visa
close to Burma/laos
beautiful ladies
friendly natives
much less visible poverty

Looking briefly at ur list i see just about everything on it is cheaper here in Phuket than PP ( an the figures they give for phuket are way high)
and up north it would be 35% less than that

I'm always skeptical of figures which include the cost of a monthly travel pass - when no such thing exists. I think all around this region there's cheaper to be had than Cambodia. But so what? Cheap doesn't define everything we need.

There's certainly no easier visa regime on earth than Cambodia's. That's a big bonus.

The thing I like most about Cambodia and least... is the lack of development, once you get a little off the beaten path - you actually feel like the original European explorers must have done. I haven't found that anywhere else in the region.

I'm also sold on the Angkor thing... not just Angkor Wat but every tiny temple remain. And completely fascinated by a history that's so darned opaque over almost every single moment of the last couple of thousands years. I'm not ready to swap that for "cheaper"...
