An Open Question To GM

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. An Open Question To GM

Post by badneighour »

I dont know if GM is a church goer...but with such a large expat community in The Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia they must be a lot of church or synagogs for expat Jews and Christians to worship in....
I mean everywhere there are Muslim in Christian countries they are allowed to build places to worship , to praise Allah...
(Switzerland allows mosque but no minarets)
So GM can you tell me how many churches or synagogs are there?

My Father once told me a story about Benito Mussolini being asked if a mosque could be built in Rome. His reply was along the lines of 'when I can build a cathedral in Mecca then you can build a mosque in Rome.'

This is why the Vatican recently hosting a Muslim delegation for ecumenical prayer was such a farce - it will NEVER be reciprocated.

Ha! I'm not a church goer. Have no religious affiliations. Don't give a rat's ass which religion people choose.
Spoiler:
Don't tell that to Rain Dog. He still thinks I'm an Islamaphobe working and living in one of stricktest Muslim countries in the planet, LoL.
I know it's a loaded question, but I was surprised to learn that there aren't any churches at all here.

I can't even wear a Christmas Thai on Christmas.

If someone sends me a package for Christmas, it will likely be returned to sender if it has a Christmas stamp on it or says "merry Christmas."

They are not allowed to change their religion here. Punishable by death, I think.

Also, Sharia Law is supposed to apply ONLY to Muslims, but Saudi gets around it by making laws for everyone, but bases them on Sharia Law, LoL. Tricky!

I've asked other Western expats here if anyone has ever come here and married a local. They just laughed. No. They've never known of anyone.

I still haven't gone to see a public beheading, but they definitely do them. This law probably isn't helping me score some hash.

I digress.

What did you ask? Churches? No, haven't seen any.

Disclaimer: I have not made any of this up about living here, but I haven't verified any of it for accuracy. So, even I don't consider any of it cold, hard facts. However, it does all seem legit and not far fetched at all.

After reading the thread title I thought badneighbour was going to ask cambod a personal question like, "Is the lack of female company in Saudi making you open to becoming bi-curious?" or "Is the lack of intoxicants pushing you to try shitting in a bucket so that you can get high on the fumes?"

I'm disappointed to see a question google or wikipedia could answer.

there are christians, i read once a report about it.
but not even a priest is allowed to wear any symbol (cross) in public or so.

what you want as a religious christian in a muslim country anyway ?
yeah, convert and preach... come on...

if you want to become a christian in saudi, then move on.
it has never been different there, i think.

nobody has to convert, to work there, or to go on holiday, though.

i think its intolerant, to ask everyone else, to be same tolerant as yourself.

Dude, come on, that are silly questions. I shouldn't even answer them. But since you asked nicely: no way! Every camel I've hit on has been female. And again: no. I don't shit in buckets to get high off the fumes. What is wrong with you? I'm making so much money here I get other people to shit in buckets for me.
