One less rude Khmer butting in line...

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Ha! That awkward moment when I don't know if I should start making a big scene and call them "cha-loi" or simple smile at them because they're just getting back in line with their friend.
Could you please just translate 'Cha-Loi' as Google translate is baffled by it , thank you
I would transcribe it as "tschleuy" which means impolite, rude, discourteous.

They do. They just don't know it, or care.
And so...
    ...they don't lose face.
Face, like reputation, is not only something you have but how others perceive you.
Face is not just an Asian thing, but I think Asians get far more upset by losing it, and can be very childish when trying to maintain it.

As for Indians, I find them ok in this regard. They may be rude sometimes, but it takes them a lot to get offended and they tend not to hold grudges the way Asians do.

Dont kid yourself. Indians are Asians also. They just hide it better. Once you submerse yourself with them and how they act you will see what Im talking about.

Sure she won't go back? Unless your wife has mental telepathy.....

i think she would have forgotten about it 3 mins after leaving and will go back and do it again.

They suffer extreme forgetfulness and pathological liars.... so the "sorry" was just a lie also.

So, I went to 3A Bakery yesterday to get something the Woman wanted but couldn't see what she wanted. Rang her on the phone and tried to pass the phone to a staff member to figure out a solution - girl flatly refused to take the call so I left empty handed.

Kids wanted some donuts today so I went back and was waiting at the counter to get served and the serving girl (not the same one as yesterday) looked at me and then decided to serve a Khmer bloke who came after me. I stood with that familiar pissed off feeling for a couple of seconds and thought 'fuck this'. Went to my moto and the Khmer dude turned to face me and smiled at me. I said to him 'that was very fucking rude', and wiped the smile off his poncy face.

I don't know what it is with 3A, I've been buying stuff from there for years and every time you are treated like a stranger, the Woman goes there too and has bought several birthday cakes from them. They make a pretty good half baguette but I find the rest of their stuff pretty mediocre.

Anyway, Fuck Them.

Most bakeries are like that. Which 3A is it? Isn't it a chain? But yeah, bakeries tend to be a free for all. People walking up and telling the clerks what they want before they even reach the counter, despite other customers already being there.

The staff probably just panic when they see a barang as they don't expect us to be able to converse in Khmer and probably don't rate their own level of English too highly. The dude that smiled wasn't being rude at all. It's Cambodia, not a 1950s London bus stop. Why should he queue in a Cambodian shop in Cambodia? Because there's a barang at the counter?
