Lovesick yes but does it come into it for marriage or even having a bf? $$$ and security seem to be the driving factor for that..Hearing quite a few stories via my GF where friends of hers are with a guy or planning to marry and openly tell her they don't really love the guy but he can provide security for her family.. Love then seems incidental afterwards or reserved for someone else?? Have you noticed khmer birthday wishes on FB... good luck, future happiness, have lots of money

yup lots of songs about the poor farmer boy not being able to afford to marry his girlfriend (and that she should find a richer guy who can give her what she wants)

I think the old wesern man is better off if he marries a young cambodian lady than if he were to marry an old western woman.

Yes but I also feel sorry for those who feel trapped in the relationship after so long and feel they cannot free themselves or it's " too late " to change things.

Watched quite a few Khmer videos. Guy loves woman and then jumps off building. Guy loves woman hunted by gangster girl, etc.

But all of them are Khmer men and women of similar ages, usually quite young, in their 20s. Generally, practicality trumps love. The father forces the girl to marry the rich guy, etc.

Except maybe for the Khmer singer who is also a westerner, few sing about love that transcends race or age or borders.

Anyways, that’s what I’ve seen so far.

the music video is actually from a movie called "Reachny Doung Chet", that the song was made for, its about a rich old guy who falls in love with a young cleaning lady

the actress is called នីមុន្នីនាថ Ny Monineath, i've been hunting down the full movie online for years but never found it
