It's Official; We are Killing Life on Earth

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

After the planet has been completely sterilized, the aliens will land and start from scratch.

I thought "everybody" knew this already.

Anyway, enjoy it while you still can.
Thanks for posting that. Of course, we "knew" that, but it's good to be reminded that nothing is our fault and everything is planned by intergalactic space beings.
So we don't have to do a thing, except make the most of the time we have left. :rave:
Bye bye planet.

“A group of scientists...”

They are usually being paid to find out details of a certain subject so will of course come to that conclusion.
“Here’s $400k. Find out what you can and try and understand if the worlds inner core will decide to all ooze out and hypothesize the rest”

>two years pass<

“We spent time looking into it (me and Dave - therefore a “group” or “team”) and honestly it’s not going to happen”

“Well we got paid so we have to publish something”
“Ok, we’ll cobble some shit together”

Global cooling!
No wait.. we got it wrong.. the earth is actually warming.

Ok... Global Warming!!
Errrrrr yeah it’s warming because we are exiting a mini ice-age from a couple of 100 years ago.

Hmm ok.. Climate Change!!!
Hmm sounds nice but didn’t we have an ice age 10,000 years ago? And change isn’t really a scary word you know.

Damn... right. We got this! ...... Climate Crisis!!!
Much better.. that’ll get the tax dollars rolling in. Now let me tweet about this crisis while popping to my summer home, ON THE COAST, in my private jet.

Nothing will ever be done to combat it. Energy usage, money and (political) power are all so intertwined with each other, it's impossible to unravel them now. The only thing that can be done is to have a massive, grassroots overhaul in how the world works, economically and politically, and those with the power - individuals, companies and countries,(those with the most to lose) would never allow that to happen.

Governments will continue to announce their 'targets' - just to appease the (as they see it) annoying climate warriors, but all that really does it add to the hot air we're already dealing with. Energy consumption = profit. Less energy consumption = less profit. It's that simple.

Maybe in the distant future, they'll work something out but by then it will be too late. I don't hold out much hope personally.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never allow the dumb ones to lead the pack.

Imagine if we all turned into vegans and let all the animals live from today. What a fucking mess that would be.

No eating cattle, pigs, sheep deer etc. No killing chooks, gathering eggs, no more fishing....

So in effect us meat eaters are doing our bit to reduce the amount of methane producing animal and chooks and fish (?) vegans should thank us.

Kev Bloody Wilson tells of the time he was waiting for his steak to arrive at the table in a food hall when a large rotund lass of the country of lesbos sat opposite him. She had a extra large plate of all things plant life and when his steak arrived she asked if he knew how the cow who provided that steak died. He simply replied "You starved it to death"

Some nice pics. Bleak reading.

Australia's biodiversity at breaking point – a picture essay
15 May 2019
As Guardian Australia has reported, Australia’s natural support systems are at breaking point. Increased land-clearing, warming oceans and a drought exacerbated by climate change are taking their toll on our biodiversity. The country is already experiencing rising oceans, marine heatwaves, longer fire seasons and extreme heat patterns. These are consistent with a changing climate.

However, there has been a lack of leadership from state and federal governments in this area, protections and funding have been slashed and emissions continue to rise unabated. Without drastic action, the future of Australia’s biodiversity looks bleak.

Threatened species

There is a “extinction crisis unfolding in plain sight” in Australia. More than 50 animal and 60 plant species have been lost, with Australia recording the highest rate of mammalian extinction in the world over the last 200 years. There’s more to come. Conservative estimates put more than 1,800 plant and animal species and woodlands, forests and wetlands at risk of extinction due to the intertwined pressures of climate change, land use practices, habitat loss and invasive species. The downward trend could be stopped, say conservationists, but only if there is meaningful government intervention. The Australian Conservation Foundation’s James Trezise told Guardian Australia: “From a conservation standpoint we know what needs to happen, but it seems there isn’t the political will to get us there.”
