Do Not Teach a Man to Fish(?)

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Do Not Teach a Man to Fish(?)

Post by VLayHo-ho-ho »

LinkedIn is a very useful tool in the biz world, especially in Cambodia.

I came across this article, and wonder if this is applicable to Cambodians?

As soon as I read that, I thought of a lot of the loser barangs here. I have VERY little empathy left for someone who has wasted their opportunities in the west, then have come over here and expect me to go fishing and give them a fish every day, while they spend what little they have on drugs, booze and cheap sex, because they have NO inclination to learn how to fish for themselves.

@Hotdigr, I didn't even consider the expatriates here, or the foreigners that stay short term, or ANY foreigners for that matter.
I suppose that when you do take a step back, there are so many groups In Cambodia that this article would apply to.
I was thinking more along the lines of the "Poor/Homeless/Beggar" local community in places like the riverside, or at the major intersections like Monivong & Sihanouk, Russian & Monivong, Mao Tse Toung & Monireth and so on.

I understand where you are coming from mate, that was just my 1st thought. Generally, I find the average Khmer a LOT more capable of looking after himself ( Knowing how to fish) then a lot of the barang I meet (just give me 1 fukn fish - PLEASE), particularly the losers in PP. Just my observation.
