You can do better than that.

I know. But it's too easy to be a dick to random strangers on the internet. Not much fun. I decided I find the whole thing, the whole idea of forums kind of juvenile unless you have cancer and need intense emotional support or something. I'm thankful to those who brought this issue to light and enjoyed venting some repressed stuff and some of the banter but it's already pretty much tired and I have things in life to do. No offense.

Well ok, one last thing. For anybody who is an active member (aside from beard dude, he seems pretty mod cool and responsible and that this might be something that takes up 80% of his day but for some unfathomable reason I feel ok with that) the rest of you... what is the appeal? Honestly? I get Reddit because it's like an encyclopedia of the underworld and so much more, but after making the front page 2 times I realized how much time it was sucking out of my life so I just stopped. Is it addicting? Do you find the things written here fascinating on a daily basis to the point that anyone would take the time to have over 1,000 comments? I think everyone knows this site has the longstanding reputation of being a joke, which in Phnom Penh is ummm... well let's just say that's almost award worthy, but obviously not enough that people don't disown it and do stay very active users. I'm curious from the perspective of exploring another subculture that's really strange to me. Ae you really lonely? (To everyone, not pointing fingers at you Spongebob.gif)

Anon9999 wrote:Heard screaming (shrill and repeated) and crying outside my apartment. The jimmies were a gag departure gift from my friend who'd lived in Vietnam and knew the heat and we have similar tastes in humor. I brought them as a pillow for the plane but as it happens here, my lovely landlord failed to inform me about all the fleas and ticks (and something else worse, like fire ants which I later found out was scabies - so much fun) from the previous owners dog underneath all the beautiful bedding, pillows and I'm sure in the mattress included. I was still quite new here and planned on getting a hammock till I could get out of there but in the meantime, it was the couch - also infested, but not as badly - and footie PJ's to prevent most of the bites with air con on full blast for a few nights.

Back to the screaming, I used to work with trauma victims in a residential center for female domestic violence survivors. I worked nights there, and knew that scream. So went to the balcony and saw some teenage punks, first 2, then another came, beating a young girl who looked 14 but they all appear far younger here than they really are, badly and ripping off her clothes. Turned on all the lights, grabbed the knife / my cell and ran out still at quite a distance screaming "POLICE, I CALL POLICE!". My screaming and hers already woke up a lot of the neighbors who had come outside slowly - with their camera phones of course - and with that they'd already stopped beating her but were still standing there like loons, so I went full crazy barang lady (hmmm... sounds familiar) on them and just started running straight towards them screaming "police" with the knife in the air.

They got on their motos and took off, some other guys from the neighborhood chased after them, never knew what happened there, but poor girl was as terrified as you'd imagine. So bloody and bruised but her jeans were still on so I asked a neighbor lady - well, charade, didn't know Khmer at that point - to please get something to cover her top half and she kindly did. Offered to take her to a clinic but she spoke a little English and said no, she just wanted to call her aunt to come get her. She did thankfully and I moved out the next day to a guesthouse till I did better research citing the fleas, my skin condition, and the violence that night as good enough reason for no notice. Landlady reluctantly agreed, of course keeping my full 2 month deposit. :/ Live and learn.
Great post and very real. Old girlfriend of mine from 6 years ago was telling me of the very same thing happening to her near the riverside a few weeks ago. Stripped completely naked by a gang of 4. Fingers shoved up her to see what she was hiding. Not raped, just robbed and left beaten and naked in the street. An old lady saw the whole thing and came over and offered her a sarong to cover herself up so she could get home. No point contacting the police.
It happened at around 4:30 pm. Thats right, in the afternoon.
Yet another thing girls here have to go through on a regular basis Kiwi.

Although, you'd normally never think it if you read *these Cambodia BBs. It's like they have a business to run, and don't want to put the customers off. lol

* secret code for General M as he doesn't like me mentioning another place.

Just like underage prostitution, I think that the cases of Bauk are even greater nowadays. Mainly due to the huge injection of cash into the 'economy' since the late 00's.
It sometimes seems that if you run a successful business in Cambodia some of the money ends up going towards rape in one form or another.

@annon; I agree with most of what you have to say about forums but as for the big joke in Cambo, that's the K4** site. I personally started reading it because I was looking for furniture. lol, and started hoping to learn more about the reasons why Cambodia is like it is. Unfortunately, the nature of forums seems to be less about information dispersal/ exchange and more about ego clashes. It's still worth checking them out for the odd bit of history/ info. Like your above post. Backs up my own info. Just be selective in your reading as elsewhere on the inet.

You can "think" anything you like, but basically it's just an unsubstantiated crackpot opinion.

If it's such a big joke how come you keep reading it?

Are there IYO more clubs/ masages/ karaokes dealing with sex now than at any time before? Is the legal age for sex in Cambodia 15?
Does it cost money to set up such establishments? Do punters need cash to use their 'facilities'? Do you hate the idea?

You'll be telling next that drug consumption in KOW is less now too, and that there is no correlation between that and the 'new found wealth' either.

As I said before, I selectively read it for history and the odd occasion when someone is talking some sense and not haranguing people. It doesn't mean that it's not got a deserved rep. How's that T-shirt idea going? Yeah, I wouldn't want to wear one either. Perhaps you could scrap the company logo and just have a plain T-shirt with THATCHER emblazoned in bold type across the chest.

There are a lot of KTVs around. They don't have windows, so you just assume that they are all underage rape centers?

You lost me with the T Shirt thing, was that an attempt at humor?
