Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Re: Noise cotrol
The catch is that what you define as noise differs greatly to what the locals do.
For them, it's listening to any western music/activity. For you it's everything, all day, ever day, because if locals are not making noise they are not happy.

A happy noise is good - kids singing on their way to school in the morning - even if it's early.vladimir wrote:The catch is that what you define as noise differs greatly to what the locals do.

My ideas about noise and what is early have changed while in Cambodia.
I used to hate noise with a passion, especially any noise first thing in the morning. I don't hear it so much now, or it doesn't bother me so much most of the time.
First time I arrived in PP, we had a "soundproof" room with no windows in the bowels of a concrete hotel. I felt like there was a party going on all night long in the street, it was so noisy for me. So from the moment I got to Cambodia I realised that I was going to have to chill out about noise levels.
And as Vlad says, we define noise differently - dogs barking all night is not a "noise" here, but in some countries the neighbours would call the police.

Impact drills at 7am on a Saturday morning that echo through the walls are my definition of noise.

The neighbours on both sides regularly using hammer drills on the shared walls between 7pm and midnight. I take no shame in using power tools in the kitchen these days, let's share the love.KPTIC wrote:Impact drills at 7am on a Saturday morning that echo through the walls are my definition of noise.

Way to go, Just wait long enough for the walls to fall down from all those vibrations, and your neighbours will be your flatmates. Then you can really share the love.StroppyChops wrote:The neighbours on both sides regularly using hammer drills on the shared walls between 7pm and midnight.
