New TEFL Program in Battambang

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

So the web site doesn't compare it to a Cambridge CELTA but
" Astute internet surfers who do their share of cyber-space traveling and actual travelers looking into acquiring a TEFL certificate might wonder what are the virtues of going all the way to Battanbang for the TEFL degree when there are dozens upon dozens of TEFL schools located in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Total waste of money

Holy shit! Congrats on finding one of my pet peeves, LoL.

Please tell me where the last quotation mark goes in your post! ! I've spent 45 minute already trying to decide where it should go, and could likely spend a few more hours if you don't just tell me! !

TEFL schools are priced at western scales, yet the wages are local. You don't need a "TEFL" to teach in SEA. The scam has long ago been outed in Thailand. The Government authorities don't even mention it as far as teacher credentials, despite attempts by said farang industry to have it that. Education is unfortunately a business over here and I assume there in Cambodia.

The trend for those still reading is to hire Filipino's at triple their Philippine wage. The Thai's at least consider Filipino's native English speakers.

ps: Triple the Philippine wage is apx $600.usd a month.

Missed your post. You are quite correct and well informed. The certificate means nothing to anyone with an ounce of sense. Training is always a good thing, but the idea of paying western prices in Thailand or Cambodia for it is absurd.

Sounds like there’s a whole bunch of age prejudice from the whippersnapper contingent. Unfortunately aging is in most cases inevitable. Hope all you age snobs change your mind once ya hit 60.
As for hiring top notch graduates - definite possibility - only problem I foresee is that after 6 weeks in deadsvile, (they roll in sidewalks by 9PM) doubt many would wanna hang around much longer.

why the outpouring of scorn? - its a grand, includes accommodation. teaching experience in a real school.
given the lack of scrutiny of quals by most employers locally, it is a cut above KS road certs surely?

ageism is a real plague as well, here and generally in cambo.

i tend to think of those afflicted by it as having abt the same psych profile as KKK and religious nutters.
