New nasty Scam in Siem Reap

Ah, right. I knew it sounded familiar.TheGrinchSR wrote:There have been two independent reports of the first scam on the Siem Reap Expats page recently.

Re: New nasty Scam in Siem Reap
The whole "no tourists in rainy season" has been a myth for the last few years I have lived here. Sure visitor numbers aren't quite as massive as they are in the peak season but they're no longer insignificant either - Angkor Wat is too much in the world traveler's eye at the moment for that to be true.Advocatus Diaboli wrote:Possible. But on the other hand it's rainy season, no tourists, no money. Cops could get some crazy ideas.TheGrinchSR wrote:I know a lot of senior coppers here and by and large they have nothing to do with petty scams at all...

OK-accepted. But when talking about "creative" cops, I still see a good chance that they are involved. They "support" or have supported the Flippo scammers in PP.

PP is not SR. This town runs on tourists and nothing but tourists. From top down, everyone gets that. And no copper involved in scamming tourists (apart from those daft enough to get into trouble whilst holding drugs in their possession) is going to keep his job for very long. The second scam is one of those lovely fantasies of someone who has heard about the original scam second hand.Advocatus Diaboli wrote:OK-accepted. Take it easy. Apparently the scam is real - second hand or not. I just wanted to inform you and if somebody runs into this particular situation then he knows now what is going on.TheGrinchSR wrote: The second scam is one of those lovely fantasies of someone who has heard about the original scam second hand.

Might be, but this is not epilepsy. You don't stand up after an epileptic seizure and start begging.Cam Nivag wrote:Or there might just be an epileptic beggar girl.

Two seizures witnessed and reported by tourists. Not surprising since she spends all day begging from tourists.Advocatus Diaboli wrote:....who gets automatically a seizure when she spots a tourist.

And since we have that thread now perhaps more incidents will be reported.
