A New Cambodian Discussion Forum Arrives! Koon Khmer: The Pulse of Cambodia (www.KoonKhmer.com)

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

A New Cambodian Discussion Forum Arrives! Koon Khmer: The Pulse of Cambodia (www.KoonKhmer.com)

Post by General Mackevili »

Well, it seems that starting new chat forums for Cambodia is getting quite popular these days.

Here is a new one that started on January 1, 2016, and claims to be by Cambodians, giving their point of view on things, including Khmer news articles translated into English.

Hmmm, Samouth, we need to talk.

Here is what they say about it:

I can hear you thinking; “another website related to Cambodia?” Let me tell you that, unlike many other websites, it’s our aim to bring the news as experienced by Cambodians. What do they read in their local newspapers and what do they see on their local television channels? Which information do they exchange on their social media? In short, the pulse of Cambodia.

Whether we agree with others or not; there’s nothing more important than looking into someone’s mind, trying to understand someone prior to judge him/her, let alone try to change his/her opinions. This should be a lesson for both, immigrants (or expats if you like) and tourists.

It won’t be easy to create these insights by just publishing a couple of articles; there’s not only the language barrier but also the difference in interests between different generations, there’s the loaded history,… Each person is unique so we can’t bring an image as seen by a society by bringing the image as seen through the eyes of one single person. This concept needs some time and hopefully over the years it will lead to some interesting insights.

It’s our goal to bring the articles, posted on the website, as brought by the local (social) media. This doesn’t mean that they can’t be discussed, hence the implementation of a discussion board.

Yours sincerely,
Koon Khmer

They even have a forum:

BAAAAN HIIIIIM! *Maximus! Maximus! Maximus! Maximus!*

So many people starting forums these days, I feel left out... :-(
Might be an idea, but one also has to know what is of interest to foreigners here. 97% of local news or Facebook stories are of no interest to expats.

^^Right. I have a hard enough time reading some of the things expats write.

It's a sad truth, but hardly anyone has a vested interest in Cambodia, and with so little to offer the world in terms of what people "want", Cambodia is too far off the radar for anyone to really take notice.

wonder why he stopped posting here.
but as i never cared for most of his posts,
i can easily give this new forum a miss

BUT then the first post quote above seems a lot better English than Samouths ever was. :stir:

Sammy hasn't got the chops to run his own forum. Recent history shows him to be a little delicate or sensitive when it comes to criticism which isn't exactly the greatest trait to have if looking after a bunch of rude, opinionated, bitter, cantankerous old expats.

If I were being cynical, I would say that Samouth has been a member of this forum for reasons other than purely social. I always wondered what he was up to. As far as his posting here that I've read, I doubt if its even one person as his English used to waiver between good and terrible.

The site may be of interest to me as long as there isn't any blood and gore on it.

* EDIT I was just having a little look and I like the design. I wish him/ them luck.

I remember he made spelling mistakes in Khmer that even I caught. I wonder. But we're all speculating. If it works and becomes a good thing, great.

If not, sorry guys.
