Never complain, never explain

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Never complain, never explain

Post by Clutch Cargo »

OK I know this is a bit bizarre but.....

Somewhere in reading the Prince Harry saga I picked up that the above was the philosophy or principle (for want of a better word) followed by the royals (or at least meant to).

Which made me think..is this an equally good practice for us mere mortals?

I think most would agree it's not, ideally, good to complain (especially about Cambodia  ) otherwise you'll probably be tagged as a whinger..

But what about explaining things? Does that degrade the strength of one's assertions?

Personally TBH I think I can reduce some complaining and I explain things far too much imho. Could be a new year's resolution :)

Anyway, please vote and discuss. Thanks

Never is too much - sometimes explaining is worthwhile. In the context of their motto with media though - it’s a yes from me. Don’t add fuel to the fire.
Despite what angsta states, it’s clear from reading through his posts that angsta supports the free FreePalestine movement.

Some things can't be explained or not easily. Possibly because they have a different background. I tend to do whatever needs doing myself so it gets done how I want it done.

I don't see much to complain about in Cambodia. I don't like crowds or cities so I only go when I have to go.
I feel very fortunate to be able to stay here so easily with such happy, friendly and welcoming people.

Never complain. It’s the English way.

In a restaurant, as you masticate your way through a near fossilized piece of steak, nod to the waiter that all is fine for the umpteenth time, vowing under one’s breath to never come back.

I gave that up for lent

Never explain?
It depends on the audience, no?

Simply pointing in the direction of the short plank and shark infested waters might be explanation enough. Or a cattle prod.

The hotelier’s choice- don’t explain to the Karen’s that their presence is an affront to nature. Simply dump their neatly packed bags on the pavement. Ideally, during the tropical storm, or failing that, when the garden sprinklers are on.

The royals may not openly complain or explain, but I’m sure they will have persons observing who will without a doubt allow information to pass along back channels to let the esteemed dictator know that hanging the Union Flag upside down and serving Baked Corgi are simply not on.

It's only a strategy that could work for the royal family, not mere mortals. It is designed to maintain a brick wall between themselves and the hoi polloi.

Engaging in direct dialogue with any 'ordinary' people would reduce them to their level, and that is the death of the monarchy. Aloof, imperious and mysterious is regal. Engaging, in touch and being accessible is ordinary and will be the end of the pantomime.

Unfortunately (for them) the age of deference is long gone and they are now seen as more dysfunctional than anyone could have imagined. The media is now uncontrollable and the whole royal institution is a ship in a storm that is only going to get worse. It's only a matter of time before some big countries remove Charles as their head of state. The Caribbean ones have already started.

Good luck with that in France ^^

No complains, no progress (from a population point of view).
No explanations, how do deal with learning stuff ? Everything is supposed to be explanable, roughly or precisely, otherwise let's religions roll the dices and hope for the best ?

It is a tendency though, to make individuals not to complain or try to understand things. Usually comes from above.

I think that is more about following the Golden Rule.

Treat others as you would wish to be treated. With deference and respect.

As if they were your parents.

Especially those posts (not posters) that you disagree with.

Unable to vote as you’ve provided insufficient options.
Here’s why-

You really need other options such as ambivalent and situation dependent.

I think this a problem with most surveys, to be quite frank- they’re geared towards delivering the result that’s desired, rather than informing on the subject at hand…

should I wink now?

No, definitely not. It was in the context of carrying out one's life... not how member's could post or how mods mod.

Sorry about that, I can see how it could have left member's wondering whether I've got my mod hat firmly on or off in posting this. Def mod hat off. I was genuinely thinking whether I could apply this more in my personal life or not and what others thought about it.
