I NEED MONEY!!!

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

My advice would be to spend those evening learning a skill that you can sell on Elance (http://www.elance.com). Just learn one thing, such as ebook editing, infographics, the more niche the better, then learn it inside out and get quick at doing it. You will need to do a few fake jobs first to build up your experience profile (you are the client and the freelancer), then do about half a dozen loss leader jobs. After that you should easily be able to get a higher salary than you have now, work a lot less hours and work from home.

You will have a big advantage as you will be able to charge similar rates to the Indians and Philippino's but be a native speaker making it much easier for the clients in North America and Europe to communicate with you. Once you get really good, you can up your rates. Later you can even hire and train locals and build a company around it.

Remember the secret to making money on those sites is to focus on a single niche and get extremely efficient at it.

^Samouth should get himself on elance as a Khmer translator. There is only one guy doing it and he charges $12 an hour. Samouth would be as good if not better.

I think I'd like to do something in construction*. I'd even have a little experience (I was working as a plumber in Austria for two years). But that's not what you had in mind is it?
Being in construction doesn't pay shit here if you're not a guy up the ladder who's got people beneath him that he delegates work to. What did you have in mind there concretely?

Yeah, I have a feeling you would be better than the other Khmer translator on there. You're top notch! Image
