Re: Name and Shame: IBC on MTT Bvd
My 6 years here, I have yet to meet a foreigner able to speak Khmer at native level. By native I mean able to listen and response to the local conversation without getting lost.

after fair amount of time in the kingdom I still cant speak Cambodian ....I always get the word for hot and the word for tail (cock) confused...can be embarrassing....lots of room for misunderstanding.....but if I think I have been insulted I always ask in Cambodian, either 'you talking to me' or 'what did you say'
if they have been rude the smile and go away....

there are people out there who can , my ex misses spoke and understood Polish ,English,French ,Hindu ,Latin and Greek....wasabi wrote: I have never met anyone who has been able to pick up the language to that degree in 6 months.
In six months of living in Hanoi she was easily at upper- intermediate level.. Colleagues who had been living in the country for years where could not believe it and said she must have studied Vietnamese longer....

Re: Name and Shame: IBC on MTT Bvd
I just remember , I went in there with my cleaner to get her a study book about 4 years ago.
When in there I noticed she( my cleaner ) had a change in mood and was withdrawn....I asked for service and my cleaner's attitude changed and she said something about the staff ,basically she wanted to leave....
I did my normal barang thing (yet to chill)and started raising my voice and telling them to hurry up....when I paid I said something like .....'it's not nice when someone is rude to you,is it'.
Ps My cleaner is dark skinned , this may have had an influence on our treatment.
I felt sorry for her
