Name and Shame: IBC on MTT Bvd

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I can confirm that SC busts his ass learning Khmer in class. Fluent.... Lol. But able to hear if someone calls him a dog or something else.... Why are you doubting that. I think they have been in a pretty intensive class for half a year now.

You are naive. I've been insulted standing right next to my Khmer missus because they thought she was Chinese and we were tourists. More than once...
I'll give ya 500 Riel for it...

But this is the point, you said "dog", but all anyone here has asked is what was said that was insulting, his silence had been deafening.... the line "I speak Khmer" after 4 or so months, even if he is busting his guts learning is pretty self confident, if not over confident!

I've never known a Khmer staff member of any place to call anyone in their presence a dog for no reason. It's one of the ultimate insults here, so I very much doubt SC was called that. Maybe, and I haven't met SC, they called him fat, which could have been mistaken for an insult when it is often nothing of the sort here. SC, what say you?

Not sure why that is relevant SQUF - I personally lived in Cambodia for 10 years, and am actively involved in an overseas Cambodian community - yes I've learnt the language, but I am no where near fluent - I still struggle when a group get together and start going hammer and tongs in the colloquial lingo - which I might add is more common than not in PP. I learnt using the same books that SC posted in the thread in the language section, yet what is taught is generally the formal/correct Khmer. Then you also have to often decipher the provincial twangs as well.
I might be a slow learner, but in all my interactions with foreigners in Cambodia, I have never met anyone who has been able to pick up the language to that degree in 6 months. Maybe as I've mentioned previously, he is a linguistic genius, but it sounds more like SC is very self-confident in his ability, even over-confident perhaps.

Any reply from the top at IBC yet stroppy?
I am reminded of one time I was mooching around upstairs in the store when it was next to lucky on Sihanouk. There was some kind of promotion on, so loud music was playing. I noticed a particularly aggressive techno version of "don't want no short dicked man" was playing. It made me think, no one even knows how inappropriate this is. No one even cares. I love Cambodia.
