Moving back to Phnom Penh

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

what shops are shut? theres no tourists but its not dead
Burger King and all the shops that have the shutters down that were open when I was last there. Oskas is shut plus many other places.
Burger King shut down, but I don't think they were ever very busy. KFC along the road also long gone.

Some places are closed but will reopen. I spoke to the guy from Chiang Mai restaurant and he said they'll open again once tourists return. So, maybe some others as well.

Ok. Not sure why people are poo pooing what I’ve said. I’ve lived here 6 years full time and I’ve never seen PP so quiet, and I could walk on the sidewalk and park my car even down the side roads like 136. Less traffic and Aeon was seriously dead.

There’s definitely a sense of foreboding. Even the TukTuks seem slightly disinterested.

Yes no tourists but there’s some as I met a couple (UK) who managed to get a visa as they said they couldn’t stand staying home so came three months early. Seems they are giving visas out to any Tom dick or Harry.

To the CEO member who spoke to me last night - so sorry I missed you during the break :) I will be there next week again.

Thats an interesting point. As far as I am aware the current visa process is very strict. No tourist visas are being issued, only Business Visas, which require a lot of supporting documentation including company registration and tax status. For a short while it was possible to get a visa on the basis of a job offer letter (which were not always genuine apparently) but that has been stopped. On arrival there is a one month quarantine period at a government designated hotel which sets you back around $1600, including costs of two Covid tests, and that alone would put most tourists off, even if they could get here. So I would be interested to know how the two UK tourists got here?

Lotta money, but could be justified if you're gonna stay in Cambodia a year or more.

Tell that to the hordes that clog the chbar ampov bridge, daily.

Not last Sunday.

Not sure how you'd quantify/qualify that statement but that's not my sense of the local populace.

I wish.

Meh. Not criticising the place just my observations from an outsider who may be moving to PP.

True about the bridge. Came across this morning but it does flow, of sorts.

Possibly you are correct, I have been wrong before (in July 1989 as I recall). But it still costs $1600+ before you get into the community.
