Movie Review "Jailbreak" - made in Cambodia

Post by Artful Dodger »

I just finished watching Cambodia's movie, "Jailbreak". In my opinion, it is of good quality coming from the fledgling film industry of Cambodia.
If you are familiar with actual prison conditions in Cambodia, this movie will make you think that the film maker has never seen one, or the set was deliberately made to make prison conditions quite bearable in contradiction of what the UN and Amnesty International have to say. For example, in the movie, there are 4 prisoners to a cell, while in reality, it is 90 plus. Also, they have beds to sleep in, while in reality, they sleep on the floor.
Apart from that deficit, the choreography of the fight scenes is right up there. I think it would rival most movie fight scenes coming from China. A couple of bad points that tend to be quite obvious and detract from what I think is otherwise a quality film are the extras in the background. In the opening scenes, the guards actions (extras) in the background are off putting, which gives an initial appearance of what to expect later in the movie, but not so. I thought it amusing that Sharky's was used as a set for the police to have after work drinks. I have never seen Sharky's with 100% Cambodian customers. Not a single Barang to be seen (and no hostesses).

Take a look for yourself ... see it online here... https://bmovies.cz/watch-jailbreak-2017 ... ovies.html

Of any of you viewing the movie, I am curious to know what is the set they used as the prison. Anybody know?

i found it at times unwatchable, unbelievable prison conditions for Camboida, ( or anywhere in SE asia), the fight scenes are badly staged, the heroes walking aorund, not being able to find a way out of the jail while the girls walking easily aorund?
and the end...
nope a big thumbs down

True... no academy award winner, but pretty good coming out of Cambodia (IMHO).

It beats any Steve Seagal movie, hands down.

I just had to add this.... I just read that Actress Celine Tran, who plays Madame Butterfly in the movie, was previously known as hard core porn star Katsuni. http://www.boobpedia.com/boobs/Katsuni

It was an old schoolhouse on Chruoy Changva that was dressed up.

It wasn't exactly ground breaking and it's definitely not going to win any awards. That said, I thought some of the choreography was pretty well done. I made it through the end, so at least it's watchable. Had it not been for the Cambodian connection, I probably wouldn't have bothered.

I watched it on netflix with my wife. It was decent. There were some reasonably good fight scenes.
