A $12 motorcycle "helmet" from the market (Pics)

Post by Sir_Quality_U_Feel »

Okay. So hear me out. I have clumsily dropped my $12 dollar Russian Market purchased moto helmet on the ground a few too many times for my liking, so I decided to put the ol helmet to rest as I am getting an actual western DOT approved helmet in Bangkok in a month. I like my stuff looking shinny and what not. So instead of donating it to someone with a head as big as mine, I decided to do a little home experiment tonight.

I put said helmet on the floor, top facing up. I then proceeded to give it a little stomp with the foot, nothing. I gave it a little harder stomp right on top of the thing, barely enough to break a wooden log the size of my arm, which isn't that big if you know me in person! hah.

I mean, I didn't come down on this thing any harder than I could imagine a light moto accident being.

Here is the results. Now I know this isn't "science" as the force of my impact wasn't measured, but it was pretty damn weak. Imagine standing straight up and then falling straight backwards onto the ground with your helmet on, thats about what we are talking about here. I couldn't imagine what a nasty accident would do to this poor fucker. Keep in mind, the impact was on the very top of the helmet, not on the weak edge. Could you imagine that sharp piece of plastic sliding down your shirt collar during and accident. Wow... plastic right into the neck sounds fun. Notice, these 10-15$ helmets don't really do shit, if only make things worse. I have decided to go No Helmet until I drop a few hundred on an actual helmet and not some piece of styrofoam wrapped plastic shrapnel bomb.

Once again... I barely came down on this thing and notice how bad in ended up. After this, I truly believe that unless you are going to get a Western approved DOT/MoT approved helmet, then you are safer with no helmet. I don't know how this post will be received, just putting this out there to show what would happen to one of these things if you got into a very slow speed moto accident. Possibly.

I really couldn't believe the outcome and even the girlfriend was kind of like "WTF?"

What do you think, CEO. Better off with no helmet unless you can get a proper western one that would actually save your brain?(maybe)

It really surprised me and the girl as even she saw that I didn't really put much force into coming down on the very top of it.

Anyways... just throwing it out there. :)

When I see idiots riding like lunatics with no helmet, I often think about making a 'community info' type of ad for tv. Make a video of dropping a watermelon off my balcony, then dropping a watermelon secured inside a helmet. Just to remind people that 'heads don't bounce'.

Even with the above photo I'd rather a crappy helmet absorb the impact that my skull. I'd be more concerned about a crappy visor splintering in my eyes.

Starting a few days ago.. in very heavy traffic, you know the kind, where the fucking youngins fly up in between you and the next person with centimeters to spare. Cunts.

I started just driving doing a bit of weaving. I am talking a few centimeters deviation from left to right just to create some wiggle room for me. The little freshy boys don't fly up on me as much I've noticed when they see me kinda of weaving back and forth a few centimeters at a time. They don't know really know if Im going to go left or right. I have found that it creates a nice buffer zone for me.

Is it bad that I am so stressed out that today I almost just said fuck it, downshifted to 3rd and headed straight into the cunts driving at me on the wrong side of the road until they all had to to slam on their brakes and almost fly up into the mom and pop shops along the road? Does that make me a cunt too? Or just an asshole? Or the smartest driver around? I choose the latter. ;)

Around town I use an old bicycle helmet. It's light and airy and keeps the cops from pulling me over. I don't like my 'real' helmet in traffic. It's tough to see all those crazy MFs swerving all around me.

My mates a crash helmet tester.

Most of the time he enjoys his work but every now and again it does his head in.
