Get some good quality bicycle helmets. That's what I'm planning to do. The dot helmets are too bulky and Khmers refuse to wear them.

Heard from a guy in snooky that some cops wont accept bicycle helmets there any more.

I'll let it go if you will. Not trying to argue. Cheers. I just don't like my words twisted around. I hope you understand.

Well, you get what you pay for. The cheap local helmets are cheap shit. Still, I am not sure how wearing one in a crash could make things worse than not wearing a helmet.Sir_Quality_U_Feel wrote:...Notice, these 10-15$ helmets don't really do shit, if only make things worse. I have decided to go No Helmet until I drop a few hundred on an actual helmet and not some piece of styrofoam wrapped plastic shrapnel bomb.
Once again... I barely came down on this thing and notice how bad in ended up. After this, I truly believe that unless you are going to get a Western approved DOT/MoT approved helmet, then you are safer with no helmet...

I covered that point with the picture of the razor sharp shard of plastic that broke off from the back. You don't think that is you are rolling over in the street in an accident that a razor sharp piece of plastic breaking off wouldn't have a good chance of maybe getting stuck in your neck or back?LTO wrote:Well, you get what you pay for. Your head hits the ground and plastic shrapnel comes off. I've been told I am hard headed, but never been told I have a strong Jugular artery.
I get where you are coming from. Something is better than nothing. My point would be that NO, that something is NOT better than nothing when sharp pieces of plastic splinter off right on your neck. Cheers LTO.
And yes, I totally agree with you and am strongly thinking about dropping some $$$ on a "real" helmet over in Bangkok here in the next few months. Something I would take back to the States with me. I fucking drop the things so much that if I did spend $300 on a nice helmet, I would be so nervous about dropping it ( or Jaos)

Yeah, I saw that jagged piece of plastic in the photo. Still, weighing the risk between maybe getting sliced up by some broken plastic vs the sort of damage that could be caused by smacking my completely unprotected skull on the pavement at speed, I think I'd risk the plastic cuts. Those helmets are definately shit but I've seen a couple of motorcycle accidents involving those cheap helmets, one in which the helmet was split in half by the impact, and the driver was still conscious afterward. Something of a judgement call I guess.
I bought a pretty good helmet in Thailand a few years back. Fortunately have not put it to the ultimate test. It may not be up to US standards, but it feels stronger than the stuff available here in Cambodia. Can't remember what I paid for it, but it wasn't $300. Somewhere around $100 I think.
