Morons in motorvehicles
Mrs S and I were heading along St. 271 the other night to Sovannah Market to experience all the joys of shopping at Lucky's Supermarket While Western and to enjoy a meal at Secret Recipe. It was dickhead o'clock on that stretch of road (not unusual, with the two sideroads crossing the black creek into the slum districts) but drivers were crawling along nicely and actually sharing the road. Except for one Khmer dickhead in a beat-up old blue Corolla (that po' man series that would have most locals walkin' rather than admit they own it) who was pushing up the inside lane, standing on his horn like he was driving a 450. The horn wasn't helping as the traffic turning across the flow into the sidestreets had nowhere to go to get out of his way. This muppet eventually lost patience and deliberately rammed a moto in front of him with three young adults on it. The moto driver did well to keep it upright and came to a halt, sitting in (presumably) shock that someone had deliberately hit him. For a moment I thought the three kids were going under and a deep rage built up in me. I think if the crowd had stopped the dickhead and dispensed some local justice I'd have been thrilled at that moment. The dickhead then cruised on in the traffic, as though he'd done nothing wrong. It took me a few moments to calm the inner beast and make an active decision to not pull him over and punch him in the head. Thanks, I feel better.

Containment is a bit of a worry isn't it.
I've come close to explosive violence here on two occasions, both while with my son and involving morons in motor vehicles. I hope it doesn't happen - putting my life at risk is one thing - putting my son's at risk raises the bar way too high.

You sound like how I was feeling when I made 18 months in Cambodia.
Similar situation happened to me (idiot in a cheapo Lexus driving like an idiot and putting others in danger), but the problem was that I lost it and chased the perp down. I was in a much larger VIP SUV though, but I eventually ran him off the road into the dirt and got him stuck, then kept on trucking. Funny enough though the motos and other cars who say him were happy about it, smiling and laughing, one giving me the thumbs up.
I know the feeling though mate, it's infuriating, and it's one (of many) reasons I could never set up base in Cambodia again

Yep, it's the 18-month mark.AE86 wrote:You sound like how I was feeling when I made 18 months in Cambodia.

Dude, those are not slums, by any stretch of the imagination.StroppyChops wrote:Mrs S and I were heading along St. 271 the other night to Sovannah Market to experience all the joys of shopping at Lucky's Supermarket While Western and to enjoy a meal at Secret Recipe. I think he's talking about the houses along the poo-poo river (The Cote D'Azure du Cambodge)
