No more busses?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

No more busses?

Post by Soi Dog »

From the PP Post.
Interview with bus company executive wrote:You are the only private company to get a licence from the municipality to take over the bus service after the one-month trail period with the JICA. Why did you stop?
Of course, after the JICA, we got authorisation to run the business, but my requests [to City Hall] were not met; therefore, we think that we cannot continue the business because nobody wants to run it when it cannot make profit.
Profit? You expected a profit after operating one month? Did you do the math before getting into this line of work?

Damn! Just when it looked like the country was starting to slightly progress into the 20th century!
I am sooooo very sorry if you can't understand or appreciate my sarcastic facetiousness.

For once, I doubt this is really a case of pure greed. The numbers probably don't add up. Even in the west, transit systems are notorious for being money drains and constantly need government subsidies/assistance. It's a shame the government can't see past it's nose on this issue though, as the traffic will keep increasing and is quickly becoming one of the city's biggest problems. Plus, the buses were donated...

Agree, but a retarded hamster could have warned you about this...don't mention that 4-letter word PLAN.

One take is that there is potential (or perceived potential) to make money and someone want s to take it over...doubt that.
