Morals

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

In my books it's ok to steal from the government and insurance companies as they'll be happy to steal from you.

Not exactly. I said society as a whole accepts that "justifiable theft" is a concept that exists. That Jacket considers stealing from the poor "unjustifiable theft" only indicates that he accepts that there is such a thing as "justifiable theft" - it does not indicate that all theft other than from the poor is acceptable.

I do think people should find their ethical code independent of what the law says, but I also understand that a society needs laws enforced objectively to function. If a homeless man stole from a grocery store because he was starving and was caught, I would not object to his prosecution, but would hope for a lenient sentence and would, personally, not consider his actions immoral.

I disagree - stealing from the insurance company just ramps policy prices and hurts other policy holders. I do believe in getting every last cent back from the ATO (IRS for you foreigners) though.

Do you lurk outside the expats house who out bidden your ass on a bar girl? :stir: :<<<I love this new one!
You're right! What you've just said is in no way a skewed version of my moral code and of the points that I have made in this thread thus far. The rest of us can only aspire and look up to a shining example of intellectual honesty such as yourself.

For real though, did you even read what I wrote before?
My beef is with capitalists, not with everybody who has got mor money than me. I gave you the example of my brother. He earns waaaay more money than me, but I'm cool with that. He actually earns his money. He doesn't exploit other people's labor.

Also, I will not stand for your false allegations. I never stole jack shit from anybody you slanderous scumbag!

Well I would certainly hope you wouldn't still from your own family. But what about me Jacket?? Yes Capitalism...I know the horror...its killed more then anything else in history.

Ok so the beef is with the system so go back to your moral code. Because you dont like people making money does that make it ok for you to steal?

You sound like a young chap or a brain dead old man who is penniless walking st 51 trying to point the finger at someone.
You're a nobody in the gutter with a Smartphone in your a hand.

I like ppl earning a lot of money.

when you look at the research, who is donating much money, then its the rich.
the middle class not.
ahhahaha...

when I earned a lot of money, I donated a lot of money. in the upper 4 digits range per year.
I appreciated this 'outcome' of it.

Stealing is stealing - but somehow rich people stealing from the poor and powerless is not the same as poor people stealing to eat. On is greed and the other is need.

You are wrong Potty...most of the time when the rich donates money, either they are about to hit the coffin or have no sense in life anymore trying to equate out their past evilness.

check the stats, flyingchicken...

the rich do the most 'good'.
they share - often massively.

ask the well-earners from the middle class: they will say "why should I donate money, the rich should..."

Yes, I heard about the Gate foundations or the Oknha proudly broadcast of their donations on the national TV. When you had everything you longed to have, you lost the essence of life. Does it surprise seeing rich people turn politicians? I tell you man, power.

Its the normal people that make the greatest impact throughout history.

Forbes contributors always say how great Steve Job is. What they failed to understand or mention is his innovation does it for the greater goods. Steve Job: this is what you can do with new product and how it benefits. Tim Cook: Our latest products are better than Samsung.
