Mood on the Streets of PP

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I have no intent whatsoever..
It is just an observation from someone who is sitting in Cambodia...an expat if you will in Cambodia.
It seems people are attacked if they don't follow the sheeple viewpoint.
If I or others voice something that rubs the elders the wrong way....they are viciously attacked..censered and even removed from participation.

Seize foreigners assets? Good one, but there are far more begpacker types than executive types in SE Asia. What will they seize, cardboard?

It's not easy for anyone right now. Be nice if people could chill a bit.

Back to PP. Apart from a lot less traffic, is life going on as usual ? Are the markets open ? Restaurants open ? Are the usual shirtless suspects still sitting outside 7/11s drinking Ganzberg ? I heard that some hotels are closing. True or false ?

Sunday evening between 5 to 6 pm is always a busy time on riverside with Cambodians walking along there and eating out in the area. You can get an idea how it is affecting the local community by seeing just how many there are there this evening.

Where's that CCTV coverage.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

It’s pretty quiet here from what I see. Most Khmers that I know who have had their livelihoods affected have just gone to the province. My take is that they are generally taking things in stride for now and it is just turning into an extended new year holiday.

If they are not working by next month when loan payments are due and life in the province has become boring then things might change dramatically.

Personally that is what I think the emergency powers are really about. Those in charge are aware that the chances of a global economic recovery in a month are virtually non existent and they are prepping for a potential loss of social order. “I was here in 2020” might just have the potential to replace “I was here in the 90s”! I’m a huge fan of personal liberty but ideology is a poor substitute for state power when the mobs form.

Yes. some markets are open. A few stalls closed but still operating in Kandal and Old markets. I cannot comment on others. Central market is quiet with many stalls closed
Yes. Many restaurants are open. Some only open in evenings
Yes. Still a few "7/11" drinkers and street sleepers.
Cannot comment on hotels closed but some may as very few tourists to house.

Only my observations

It is.

But how many of the posters here actually are in Cambodia? I'm beginning to suspect it's a minority.
Isn't this "CAMBODIA EXPATS" online?
I guess a lot depends now on what one is actually 'doing' in Cambodia.

With a decent job or even an average one, it's still a cheap place to live and some fun can still be had. But just to hang out there, kind of dull now IMO.
