I Miss the Thumbs Down Option

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

It's been nice not having to put out even more fires lately, and on top of that, it seems to have encouraged more members of our community to use the 'report' function to show disapproval of something instead of likely starting a karma war with negs, and it helps notify us of it, as we get alerts when you all report something, but not when you tell someone to fuck off via negative karma.
this,
tbh i never even used the thumbs down so dont even notice its gone

so its made more work for the one less mods & you and not allowing the regular joe here to show if we agree/disagree?

1 idea, if someone starts a "Karma war" first warn them , than fucking ban them

I used the negative only when i thought
1. the poster was talking out his ass
or
2. the poster just made a post that was not with the spirit of the thread and was clearly trolling

I'm easy, whatever. I've only used the thumbs down once. Then I sent a PM to the poster concerned and we both agreed that it was a shitty thing to say and he deleted it. It's true that I could've just sent the PM or reported it.
I think it's up to the mods, but if members want to have negative karma function, then they would have to be more discerning about using it. Otherwise it creates more problems than it solves. Problem is that it's a lot easier to press a neg :thumb: (esp after a few beers), than to write a reply or PM or report to mods.

Actually, I quite like Hanno's suggestion, but for the people who abuse the negging. First abuse, 1 shock, and so on. :head shot:

was going to make a jab about Germans and torture devices but....Hanno's a bit touchy.

BEHOLD:::::

Username Taken unveils CEO's new non-lethal, virtual thumbs-down, shock-o-matic !!!!

Merely put your cursor over the username of the offending posts author and press Crtl X

Guaranteed safe as it was given a trial run on Frank Lee Bent. His subsequent retirement from mod duties merely a coincidence.

Perhaps make negging anonymous?

That upvote-downvote is primitive. There should be a range of options for attacking each other, different weapons you could use to fuck up the other poster/player's posts. Some of the weapons could dissolve the disagreeable text, others could shoot at the other poster's avatar, gradually destroying it. The attacked poster wouldn't die, but eventually after enough down-votes would become severely disabled and only able to type one word per post.
