I miss Cambodia

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I miss Cambodia

Post by bkktrapper »

Who goes to the temples in siem reap and spends the day chatting with locals rather then actually seeing the temples? Who would rather drink been in front of the convenience store with a group of tuk tuk drivers rather than visit S1 and killing fields? who would rather visit steung mean chey dump than goto have a cocktail on the river side? Who would sooner work for beer and food in kampot rather than make 70000 $ a year back home And who would prefer a bowl of 2500 riel baw baw over an english breakfast?

I'd rather go and see the temples (even though I've been there a couple of times already)as I chat to locals everyday anyway. The Stung Meanchey dump closed about 5 years ago, I live near there.
And who would prefer a bowl of 2500 riel baw baw over an english breakfast?
Not me. Bor bor is ok but I'd prefer the fry-up.

A little blue-eyed, me thinks?

When I go to see the temples, I do it exactly for that. Chatting with locals? I can do that in front of my door.

Drink beer with Tuk-tuk drivers? Why?

Rubbish dump (which is no longer there) and I cold one by the river side? I am not even going to answer that.

What about making (more than) 70,000 a year IN Cambodia and not having to worry about paying for food and beer.

No fan of English breakfast but baw baw is terrible.

Let's face it: you had no choice to do most of the above and are thus trying to romanticize it no> I doubt many on an expat forum will agree with you :D

Oh dear .. another barang wants to go native .. give up their worldly possessions and live the simple life in Cambodia .. sounds like you had a nice holiday ..just leave it at that ..

It's no fun being poor in Cambodia .. ask your Khmer 'friends' ..

I think ur confusing happiness with acceptance

NO One, anywhere, that is dirt poor, is happy

When family/friends visit Cambodia I usually promise that I'll go to the temples with them, then bail at the last minute and go drink beer anyways.

I did visit S-21 when my friend from Indonesia came for a visit. She had to check out the killing fields on her own.

Never seen the dump.

Work for drinks in Kampot? Sure.

Got me there. English breakfast every time.
