Mekong Water Levels

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

1. Social. We sell produce at the morning market 6-8 days a month. It is not for money bot gives us an occasion to socialize with the villagers. Also we can trade produce that we don't need for that which we do need. Almost always rice which. I refuse to grow because it is back breaking work with a low profit margin. We also give some produce away to poor families or our own family and especially fruit to kids.

2. Stewardship. We cultivate and plant a large variety of native plants that kru Khmer from around our commune use to make medicines. Again we charge nothing. We do it to keep the culture alive.

3. Exercise the work helps keep me fit and healthy. This is highly important at my age.

So PhuketRichard a hobby farm can be whatever you want it to be as long as your goal is a personal gain other than profit. It has served our family well.
Now we are getting somewhere.
asp, how big a plot of land do you have and have you tried growing any fruit or veg from your home country that is not usually grown in Cambodia.

takoman,,,, Thanks for the offer, I would love to do that.

Maybe. I doubt it. I'm going deep for fossil water, if possible.

My few neighbors are drawing from wells that are no more than 20m deep (arsenic levels dangerously high), plus the water table is not likely to be this low again for a long time.

I'm not looking to make a living from the land, either, and my planned crop is rather light on water so I don't think I'll be killed over water rights just yet. I just want a little income from the land and to keep some staff busy.

Here is what I did on a '' hobby farm'' in just 12 years.

To this. 12 years later.

And this is what I built to pump water. but as you can see ,,, the growth of the trees made that impossible after a few years.

No WE'RE not going anywhere together. That answer was written as a response to a polite query, I.e. Not to you.

Now we are getting somewhere ,,, in English terms, that means, we are now starting to discuss the subject.

Nothing to do with ''' going somewhere ''

Maybe, I've been too oblique. WE are NOT discussing anything. I find your posts unbearably condescending and hence unworthy of consideration. If you find yourself in further need of my company please kiss my asp.

That's why this forum has a '' ignore '' button . If you don't want to read my posts, I don't mind one bit.
UT or the GM will show you how to use it.
