I may or may not have just witnessed a homicide outside Wat Ounalom

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. And that its best to have as little interaction with the police as possible and mind your own business. Then she said there's so many kinds of police she doesn't even know which one to call.
What if it were a white guy? Or a white woman?
I guess with no distinction; besides, from the description, from what I gathered, it was a bit too far away to determine that. But, I concur, even in the west, I would think twice to call the police for anything.

Excuse my ignorance but why is it so bad to call police in this country, all you are doing is reporting a potential crime, maybe I have a lot to learn about this place.

What do you do when the cops turn and say it was you who did it? You're alone with a dead body. What are you going to do? Call your embassy? And then what? You can give $5,000 and the problem goes away. OK then, only $2,000 for you. See, police can be nice people too. I give $3,000 discount, OK?

Cops and dead bodies, a combination nobody wants in their life. Nothing good comes from it. Run!

Point taken, but we are not talking about being down some dark street on your own with a dead body, sitting in a restaurant with hundreds of witnesses just reporting a disturbance out in the street can't be too bad can it ????, maybe it is, I don't know that's why im asking.

And, where are the photos?
the guy wasn't a shirtless barang, no photos :beer3:

jokes aside he did the right thing by not getting involved though a call to the cops by the hotel staff may have been an idea. if the guy was a jaow the cops wouldnt have done much until they were sure he had received enough of a kicking and if not given him a kick themselves

Cant really say what i would have done being that i was not there and can only speculate. Right or wrong is defined by people. We are entitled to do what we believe is correct.

Im not a judge or does my opinion matter, i just hope that i would have done the right thing in any situation.

Drove by shortly thereafter and didnt see anything ao it may have resolved itself. To all, becareful out there.

I think the odds of being framed for murder because you reported it are remote. But it did happen to this guy:

In this situation, I may ask the staff at the place where I was, to call the police. I dont know what happened, but it may have been a thief getting beaten up, or a drug dealer who hadnt paid what he owed.

With different situations I may find myself in, I would make a decision based on the circumstances.

If there was only one aggressor, I am more likely to step in. If there were 20, I would probably not.

If there was nobody else around, I would be more likely to step in. If there were a lot of people around, I would probably not.

If there was a foreigner or a girl getting beaten up, I would be more likely to step in.

You may only need to approach, or stand between the aggressor and the victim, to stop further injury.

Anyone reading this be smart.

The entire group of Cambodians may turn on someone trying to stop a fight. You could be the next victim.

You may be asked to pay the hospital bill.

You may be accused of the crime.
