mask up!
Re: mask up!
Whether you are right about the racist thing is totally out of this current discussion, but you do realise that with the above you wholly endorsed @Anchor Moy's point?Ryan754326 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 5:00 pm As for your last point about foreigners coming to my country and ignoring the local rules and practices in favor of their own, well, it happens all the time, and if we object, we are usually called racists.

Re: mask up!
He asked how I would feel if the roles were reversed and foreigners in my country were ignoring social norms and following their own. I gave an answer. It may be irrelevant to the overall conversation, but it was relevant to the question he asked.
And yes, I realize that I’ve endorsed his point; If the locals demand that we wear a mask, we will have no choice, whether it is logical or not. So far though, I have been greeted with friendly smiles everywhere I go, with very few locals wearing masks to cover them.
Re: mask up!
I've been out in the province today and did notice that not many are wearing masks.
I wonder whether it is the people in the city overreacting or the village folks don't have access to masks?
(To make my position clear, I DO think that we should show respect to the people here and wear masks if it makes them comfortable.)

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
Re: mask up!
What was the change from the outset of now the wearing of masks? Apart from common sense. It was a unmasked police man who told me to wear a mask, being that local people now blame westerners for bringing the virus. But it makes sense even if it does not give complete protection, a little may save your life.nave wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 7:06 pm I've been out in the province today and did notice that not many are wearing masks.

If we look back just a little time it was the PM of the country whom he allowed the cruise ship to dock, where many countries would not do so, because it was suspected that some passengers onboard had the virus. He unmasked, greeting and welcoming the foreigners in person at close contact from that ship has some disembarked, also telling others not to be scared at the time and remove their own masks.

Was it his way to show compassion and understanding, or political move to show his country people there is no need to be worried.
You and I could say many things on the subject at this time, we could or not talk politics, firstly "No", because we have no place to do so. In our own countries, expats migrants have rights, can speak, and have laws of protection and so on. Racism is here in this country and you have no rights or very little protection on your side, in fact the protectors are at times, and could be your takers.
Good news -
PM: Treatment of COVID-19 infected patients in Cambodia is free
All patients, regardless of their nationalities, tested positive for the new coronavirus (COVID-19) in Cambodia are entitled to have free medical treatment.

Not so good news for these -
More than 170 Chinese tourists quarantined in Bavet city

One thing I would question is on health, more so testing, not having some test equipment or persons to effectively use it, they do know our temperature would be of a higher reading naturally to that of most Asian people.
Be safe and use common sense.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Wear a mask if you are in close contact with other people. It won't kill you.Phnom Poon wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 8:32 pmno science indeed

Nothing is "required" for the moment in Cambodia, but i also try to stay home and keep my distance from my fellow human beings when I go out. Do what you want, but I think that foreigners in Cambodia should do what they can to be responsible and not spread the virus. It sucks but it's not about us, it's about protecting the people that you are in contact with.
Frankly, I'm appalled at some of the expat bars who carry on partying like this doesn't concern them. Young westerners might be in good health, but they are spreading the virus as much as those stupid chinese casino tourists.
