Re: Man Killed by Fireworks During Close of King’s Anniversa
I was wondering if any of the guys on here with a bit of knowledge about this would liken the misfire to?
Last night we were standing on the grassed area in front of the palace but only a few meters off the closed road in reality, yet we felt the shockwave of the blast even though it had travelled across the river, road and the block of land full of people in front of the palace.
Would this be somewhat similar to, say, a mortar going off? Just wondering as I've heard loud explosions before but never been in a zone where you felt the shockwave.

Ha! I remember you getting security at one of the shows you did at a casino in Sihanoukville, then you had to deal with getting the security to back up too!OrangeDragon wrote:... i've had this issue in my shows to the point i now hire security to establish a perimeter and keep it from being crossed when i do a show.

What an explosive situation. To think, a man was out to celebrate and his whole world went up in flames. I feel for the family. It must be a tinder situation.
I'll give ya 500 Riel for it...

My wife call's me her "firework"
Its because, I only last a few seconds, then explode, and then leave a smelly mess behind.

There are a lot of variables in play to determine that... thickness of the casing/metal tubes, size of the shell, etc.Joker Poker wrote:I was wondering if any of the guys on here with a bit of knowledge about this would liken the misfire to?

With a general 3" shell and a piece of typical steel construction pipe it would be about 1/4 of what a military mortar or grenade would have in force. However if this was intended to be the final shot, it's altogether possible it was a much larger shell... 6", 8", or even some of the big 10" and 12" finale pieces which would be closer on par with that. We watched a 24" once that had a quarter stick of dynamite in force just for the lift charge... not counting the breaking charge inside or the star compositions.
The big factor is compression... the whole "a firecracker ON your hand burns, while one IN your hand takes away fingers" effect. the more the gasses and fuel are compressed with one another, the higher the resulting explosive force when they finally break free. So the thicker the metal, the more external force when it finally shatters.
Ha! That was a trip... but yeah... still better than having kids coming up screwing with shit while I do it.General Mackevili wrote:Ha! Re: Man Killed by Fireworks During Close of King’s Anniversa
I was in a Fireworks accident back in the states. My uncle set off a 20inch mortar that backfired on a beach front. This backfire lit 6 10 12 and 18 inch mortars off also. Pretty scary....worst experience of my life next to the bus ride to Bangkok. No one got killed by about a dozen hurt and a fishing boat sunk.
Everybody in the states has a least 1 horror story. Bottle rocket in the eye. Looking into a tube at the wrong time. etc etc.
I do miss it and I love the smell.

We used to get the bottle rockets that exploded and then stand about 30 or 40 feet from each other down the road and shoo them across each other , hiding in the big ditches(ravines) the entire time. Got tagged a bunch of times but it just bounced off.The Add Jay wrote:I was in a Fireworks accident back in the states. My uncle set off a 20inch mortar that backfired on a beach front. Am I the only kid who had BB gun wars with friends. We would only give them 1 pump, enough to sting and maybe put and eye , but probably not even permanent eye damage witha direct hit. Not with only 1 pump. We were just fucking around and tagging each other in the stomach and legs. It all ended the summer my friend Jay decided to pump it up 10 times and shoot my friend in the foot. That was about 18 years ago... that little BB is still stuck in between my friends big and middle toe. hehe. Good times.
Sorry.. for the derail

How the hell did your uncle get mortars of that size in the US? Shit is regulated to the stars and back here... is he licensed? The Add Jay wrote:I was in a Fireworks accident back in the states.
