make your own ebike
Re: make your own ebike
The power is on all night, that is when I charge mine, once a week or so.
The bike will do 50km/h and has more torque off the line so reaches speed faster than the honda dreams...etc that is with throttle only no peddling needed.
The battery lasts ~30Km without pedaling. It also has 5 pedal assist modes so you can pedal if you want and that will greatly extend the range and with the saddlebags I can carry groceries etc.
I don't by fuel, no maintenance, registration, insurance or license needed and electric power is minimal, maybe .15 cents per charge, and not even noticeable on electric bill.
Much easier to maneuver about in traffic or congestion can go places motos can't.
Initial cost to build brand new is less than half the price for a moto plus they bring back the thrill of being a kid again which to me ,being 69, is priceless
you can modify or custom make what ever type suits your style without hassle from the powers that be;
want it for dirt try 2 wheel drive
chopper
retro cruiser
fat tire trike

Re: make your own ebike
A few people who ride motorbikes have appropriate licenses in their home countries. Many dont, so riding a motorbike is technically illegal, particularly if you are concerned about insurance. Riding an electric bike is legal without a license.

I am not on the edge of civilisation, i am 10 miles from phnom penh centre with a 20 amp fuse in a village all fed from the same power line.
Stop pretending you are in cambodia - phnom penh is far better proivided for than the countryside, and your phone will tkae hours to recharge in Cambodia at the moment because the electric is off for hours
Re: make your own ebike
its quite obvious i live in England and only visit Cambodia on holiday sometimes, maybe in the future i could make the move but thats a way off yet.pczz wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 2:46 amI am not on the edge of civilisation, i am 10 miles from phnom penh centre with a 20 amp fuse in a village all fed from the same power line.

if the power where you are is such a problem for you, why not make yourself a power bank out of a few old truck batteries a charger and an inverter.
it can charge when the powers on and you can use the power when the juice is off. it wont light up the village but it would charge a phone and run a laptop for a few hours.

Thank you Mr Point out the obvious. Sheesh.
I saw one of those fat tyre gimmicky bikes in PP of all places. If you want to make your journey harder just ride around with your brakes on or carry a small child on your back!
(Yes. I know they are for sand but why would anyone want to ride on the beach!)

Skim read it.
Most of it is tenuous at best. They are not good in mud for a start as they tend to get bogged - more surface area.
The only benefit is comfort but then if your after comfort get one of those Dutch style bikes with spring seats!
On that note.
I had a little ride of a friends who had one. Fucking ridiculously silly idea.
Mind you I also turn my nose up at full sus bikes so...

You get used to it and plan round it. Most cambodians could not do what you suggest due to lack of education and the fact that used batteries are valuable, what they can get is used for imnportant stuff like tv. Over on the farm we have no electric and rely on 4 solar cells and a generator. The cells power the light and tv, the gennie is for the well pump. No worry about the phone cos their is no signal within 200 metres anyway. It is 20 km to town and shit dirt roads fr about 5km.la8rat wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 7:31 amits quite obvious i live in England and only visit Cambodia on holiday sometimes, maybe in the future i could make the move but thats a way off yet.pczz wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 2:46 amI am not on the edge of civilisation, i am 10 miles from phnom penh centre with a 20 amp fuse in a village all fed from the same power line.

The point I am making is that electric vehicles requires a certain amount of infrastructure that just is not available to most khmer who live in tenemnet blocks in the city or rural communities. it is not anything like the uk. You leave your moto in a secure parking area (no power and it is moved in and out as they jam them in tight). Your bicycle you need to take up to your room. I am lucky, my apartment in town is a shop house and the downstairs has power and is our parking lot so i could use and electric bike but, once again, muy usual trips are 10 k plus across town or out to the vuillage or 80k to the farm so electric just is not practical.
What we really ned are electric vehicles that you can remove the battery from and take to your apartment to charge overnight, and a range of at least 100 km, and even then if everyone in a block or village bought a bike that would take out the electric supply in short order. some places only have 20 amp for the whole block
Re: make your own ebike
Most ebike batteries, like mine, have a keyed lock that is opened and the battery is easily removed for charging.pczz wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 1:21 pm.....................................................la8rat wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 7:31 amits quite obvious i live in England and only visit Cambodia on holiday sometimes, maybe in the future i could make the move but thats a way off yet.pczz wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 2:46 amI am not on the edge of civilisation, i am 10 miles from phnom penh centre with a 20 amp fuse in a village all fed from the same power line.

You can have a battery with 100 km range, my 11A battery gets 30+km, 30A + batteries are also available and speeds over 100km/h if that is what you want.
Chargers use under 2A

Re: make your own ebike
I do not believe there are many ebikes that will do that sort of speed, and it will certainly cost you, some of them are pricier than a car.
10 fastest production ebikes.
