Maid Questions
Just out of curiosity, do people over there still hire maids?
When I lived there, we had a maid to do our shopping, cooking, cleaning. There weren't washing machines or driers, and we didn't want to go to the Asian markets every day and then deal with food prep and cooking. But enough about me.
Do you all still have maids over there?
What do you pay, and what does she (he?) do for the money you pay?

Yep, in rural Cambodia it's part of a wife's job description.

As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

Re: Maid Questions
Hey--I do all of our cooking and cleaning! And I'm quite alright with that. I'm a good cook, too.
But when I landed in P P in '94, it was all much too much for most of us.

In the province of Gilead they are called 'handmaids' and dress like this:
'Blessed be the fruit'

Re: Maid Questions
We pay a live in nanny/housekeeper $200 a month. It’s an all in deal... she’s a damn good cook but he only thing she hasn’t grasped is the washing machine. So I set it going and she’ll sort it all out once it’s done.
Re: Maid Questions
My landlord employs one. Khmer quite often use poor relatives from the countryside. In return for maid duties they get bed and board and school. Relieves pressure on the countryfolk's budget and its cheap help. many years ago they used to be as young as 5 or 6 but I am not sure if that still happens.
I am house trained and do it all myself

Re: Maid Questions
I've never had one in all my years here. All other expats I've known to have a maid have been stolen from at some point; not worth the hassle versus a bit of self-discipline.

Look at Spigz, trying to seem a man of the people.
Let's put this another way. How many young, female cousins and/or other distant relatives of the wife do you have living in cramped quarters on the palace grounds scrubbing banisters, cleaning Audi floor mats, and scouring brown streaks from your Calvins?
