Made in Cambodia: What Could Possibly Go Wrong With This Homemade Airplane?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Made in Cambodia: What Could Possibly Go Wrong With This Homemade Airplane?

Post by General Mackevili »

It looks like some villager is making his own airplane in his back yard. And considering how much as I trust Tuk-Tuks that receive all of their maintenance from a squatter on the side of the road with 2 hand tools and a stash of one-size-fits-all inner tubes, I would have no hesitations at all about taking this from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville.

And it got really, really high on its first test flight, and only having a little bit of trouble keeping up with the traffic. No, not air traffic, Kompung traffic.

I think it is interesting project. However, I see a few general problems with this construction.

Wings are obviously never going to give that contraption any lift. I still applaud the guy. The guys who built the first planes were people with a passion who liked to tinker. I'm not sure if he actually wants to make a plane or just a car that looks cool.

Welcome to our forum, Esu. What specific problems do you see? Do you think it will eventually be able to fly?

along a similar line.....

The world’s first passenger drone capable of autonomously carrying a person in the air for 23 minutes has been given clearance for testing in Nevada.
Chinese firm Ehang, which unveiled the electric Ehang 184 passenger drone at CES in Las Vegas in January, has partnered with the Nevada Institute for Autonomous Systems (NIAS) and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (Goed) to put the drone through testing and regulatory approval.
