the golden standard should be massages in Thailand.
i even had decent massages for 100 baht in pattaya months ago, i can say they were better skilled than many of the places here who are asking 10-12$/hr.

there's a terrible lack of skills here in PP, while in SR it gets a bit better.

in Vietnam i had excellent massages, top rated, 5 stars ! but not in the cheap places, i paid maybe 10-12 bucks.

Malaysia is OK but it;s chinese massages, different thing.

Laos, probably as bad as cambodia apart rare cases.

Indonesia, Philippines, always hit or miss and generally low quality apart in the top places where they have thai or chinese masseuses.

Nepal, India, just forget it, it's a joke but at least they're cheap.

in the past i loved these places but finally had to give up because each time i smelled of that putrid mix of sweat and sperm and stale that is the trademark of the 10K riels massages, had to wash my clothes and get a shower.

they probably change the bed sheets twice a year ... sometimes the fan is broken and noisy, you'll sweat your ass off.

as for the privacy, before i enjoyed the lack of privacy, it felt sleazy and adventurous, now i'm fucking tired of the lack of doors and people screaming from one room to the other or girls coming in and out while she's doing me a handjob.

it's a nice alternative but ultimately you will want a clean place where you go out smelling fresh instead of needing a shower to wash out the smell of shit.

they're really all the same shit, one is worth the other.
however, i found many diamonds in the rough in the past but there's always a high turnover.

most of the cases, they will also expect you come in 30 seconds and will start complaining after 2 minutes ...
said that, once you become a regular in the same place they're quite friendly and playful, but still their skills are very very basic.

you should never ever pay more than 5 bucks for massage + happy ending,
and i had some places where i could get away with 3-4$ but they're too far from my house, not worth the trouble.

Top quality for the price. However, the chicken in Hanoï said "Oh, so small" when I gave her 20 000 doing tip (should have taken it back, but I just ignored her). I think Khmer (and Thai?) massages are an acquired taste. They're not really methodical and tend to just rub a lot. Feels good if you're in a rush. 30 mins always feels too short unless it's a foot massage.

In VN watch out for your wallet. You hang your pants on a hook and they send another girl to get most of your $$ when you're face down. They leave you a little to pay for the massage and grab a moto. This wasn't in a Hot Toc either. It happened to me and a friend in a legit place in Nha Trang. I know 5 or 6 other guys who got the same treatment. If you want a good massage in BKK, try Cefle` on Soi 33. It's a higher end place across from the Office Bar. Go in the morning or afternoon. At night it's full up w/Japanese businessmen. 400B/2hrs. If you want cheap, Try Mai's it's behind the Westin, near Fusion Suites, on 19 on the 2nd floor. 100B/hr. Dog-shit ambiance but a great massage.

I go to the blind massage place opposite the post office to get a really deep massage.

Yeah one good thing about the blind massage spots is that they've obviously been trained and follow a scripted routine. The quality from the various staff usually differs much less than in other establishments.
