Let's Get Back To Political Infighting.

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Let's Get Back To Political Infighting.

Post by takeoman »

At the moment these pages seem to be suffering from a surfeit of mumbo jumboism, debates about religions. It's time we got back on track and indulged in some political backbiting.
To kick it of here are a few questions for my old enemy OD.
Why do so many expats, especially NGO'ers, continue to laud the Somaly Mam of Cambodian politics, Mu Sochea? This dedicated self publicist has been around for over two decades, and has managed to insert more stories about herself in the press than most Holywood A listers manage in a lifetime.
What is the real deal that HE and Sam Rainsy made? The last time these two collaborated a certain prince ended up the loser.
Can the CNRP hold together? After the arrests a spokesman for the Sam Rainsy wing said they weren't too concerned as the majority of the detainees were from the Human Rights faction. Also why did the majority of the prospective MPs stay away from Mu Sochea's demo, when all were requested to attend? :beer1:

tekeoman,

How did you settle with OD ? I had a bit of debate with him but
did not know how to bring up the issue and settle things.

I just "let it go" thinking that often why I try to bring up an
issue and explain that I wanted to make sure that both parties
could be at peace, well, it only re-ignites the issue. I fail at that.

Any insight on how to do it right ?

Mu Sochea: Because something has to be supported... and there's not much for better options. It's her, the CNRP Duo, or HE... not a great selection to choose from.

SR/HE deal: Who knows... but sa far nothing has blown up or burst into flame... so we'll just have to wait and see. I personally think both sides just realized he couldn't drag it out much further and needed to settle it all down. It came just after the protesters were starting to do the beatings, which makes it look like HE has lost control of order. It also makes SR looks like he's lost control of his followers. A lose lose for both and I think they got it and addressed it in the only way they could... as a team.

Think you'll find the Dragon is not one to hold a grudge, he'll correct me if I'm wrong. I refer to him as my enemy, because I don't think, when it comes to the political situation, we have ever ended up on the same side. However, no matter how heated our debates were, I harbor no personal resentment and hope neither does he. :hattip:

Interestingly the Dragon failed to assure us that all was well, internally, with the CNRP. If one was to accept the conspiracy theories that some of the cadres in Takeo have heard, one would have to accept that it is a house divided. The absence of so many MPs elected from the demonstration is claimed to have been because it was known that trouble was assured. It is also claimed that Mu Sochea was the main obstacle to the deal that had all but been agreed, and it was thus convenient that she was in effect taking out of play. Conspiracy theories I tend to dismiss, but the mere fact that stories like these are circulating suggest that the opposition is anything but united. :beer3:

Like Howard Hughes I am, rarely,if ever seen in public, so it might prove to be an exceptionally long wait. :hattip:

In rather nice bottles, labelled Ganzberg. A pleasant German gentleman collects them from me, don't know what he wants with them. :hattip:
