Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! No idea who they are, but it's easy to see what their main problem is! Still, I think druggies should be repatriated as well.

A German citizen, who complained to PM HE after he claimed he was ignored by the German Embassy and left to live on the streets of Phnom Penh, has been repatriated to Germany after further intervention from the Royal Government of Cambodia

Martin Albert Schomacher aged 55, who has a physical illness and was sleeping on the streets, had earlier criticized his embassy in Cambodia for not taking care of him and for not helping him to go be repatriated to Germany.

The 55-year-old German was discovered after being posted on Facebook and received the attention of HE, the Prime Minister of Cambodia.

He was then taken by Cambodian officials to Calmette Hospital for treatment for physical illness and foot ulcers.

Mr Schomacher left Cambodia on the night of March 25, 2022 on a repatriation flight back to his homeland.

As he left, he expressed his thanks to the Royal Government of Cambodia and the people of Cambodia for their assistance.

No, it's the homeless guy who should be embarrassed. Countries are not responsible for their wayward citizens abroad.

Cambodian officials are probably very pleased to get rid of him off their streets & out of their country, there are probably a lot more undesirables they would like to help on the way too

Does Cambodia pay for its' own to return to Cambodia when they are needing to be repatriated/deported/etc, or just for people from other countries to get out?

To the point of the German Embassy being responsible, is the Cambodian embassy abroad likewise responsible?

As its said, not Germanys fault. They have a welfare system but this guy came here instead by himself meaning that he obviously did not want to be a part of it until he ran out of money

However when a country take in tourists to make money they will of course also have some costs associated with that and especially when you choose to have very relaxed laws about it. Cambodia obviously dont mind taking the risk with very relaxed requirements to boost their tourist sector. Why should Germany pay when it was Cambodia that accepted him to make a profit from his spendings? If you see it more from a business perspective as tourism is the business of a country.

Of course i think that he is a idiot and Cambodia should also not have to pay for him but cant see why Germany would be blamed.
