Learning Khmer

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Jamie and others may know of this course but if not , take a look. As a teacher of academic English for 20 years, I can safely say that the exercises and drills following each lesson are very well structured and extremely effective in the learning process

Go to https://www.livelingua.com/project/fsi/Cambodian/ and click on the 4th book (picture)....Contemporary Cambodian.

I of course may be wrong about how 'correct' this book is as I have yet to step foot in the country ; maybe Jamie can give his opinion on the books accuracy.
All I can say is that I have learned a lot of basic structure, and very basic pronunciation from it.
ill have a look into this later after work, will be interesting cheers
had a look at that, i couldnt work with it mate, the phonetics are all out and not decent script
for someone just starting out im not sure how they could learn the proper pronunciations going off what i saw
the cambodian for beginners previously mentioned is a lot better to work with tbh

Thanks for your input. It's hard to get good online material, even the YouTube clips contradict others when it comes to the pronunciation of the same word. Guess I will plod on and learn as much of the grammar as I can then work on the pronunciation when I get there and hang out with locals. And you, of course,

https://nchc.dl.sourceforge.net/project ... _Setup.exe

take your time unzipping and organizing everything into respective folders and enjoy

I'm using Cambodian for Beginners Book by Richard K. Gilbert & Sovandy Hang, 2nd edition. I bought mine directly from the publisher, Paiboon Publishing, and it was only $35.00 USD. That includes 3 CD's.
Link to the website for all the details. They have a list of locations all over Thailand where you can buy it. They also sell directly from their USA location. http://www.paiboonpublishing.com/

yeah we used this at school, they gave me it for free :thumb:

Where could I buy this book from in PP?
