Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. Laos Border with 7 days overstay

Post by Kalingha »

Hi, I had an accident on my way to the airport, missed my flight and have overstayed my visa now by 1 day. 7 in total when I finished my medical exams. Question: :- can re reenter Cambodia after I paid the US$ 10/day fine?
Thinking of a Laos Border run...
Please advise
Thank You

By "finished my medical exams" do you mean treatment related to your accident as opposed to studying medicine here? If the former, get the doctor/clinic to write a note for you and I would have a guess you'll be OK.

If you're fit to travel you just have to pay as it is now. I don't remember the threshold clearly, but it's four weeks or 30 days. Anything below that number and you can leave after paying the fine without consequences for future entries. Anyone overstaying more will enter the legal system for seriously breaching the laws.
Forget about letters from your doc's explaining why, and asking for a free departure. A waste of time. You overstayed, so you have to pay.

Nobody will care about your medical history, real or invented. Pay up and off you go, or don't pay up and get locked up. Simple really.

Overstay of less than 30 days - pay $10 per day fine at passport control when departing, applicable at all borders (air/sea/land).

Overstay 30+ days - pay $10 per day fine at Department of Immigration Visa Office in Pochentong and purchase an Exit Visa for $30 which is valid for 7 days.

As long as you pay your overstay fine there are no issues returning, you only get blacklisted if you are detained for overstaying, and/or cannot pay overstay fines and deported.

I think @Kalingha is back long ago already...
Driving on Cambodian roads is just like playing a classic arcade top scroller. The only difference is a force feedback controller, the limitation to only one life and the inability to restart, once Game Over
