Re: Koh Wrong- again
Could get interesting down that way. Or, some money will be paid and it will be business as usual.
The attack on the resort island came the same day that Interior Minister Sar Kheng sent a team of high-level police to Sihanoukville to probe a spate of recent violence among foreigners—including explosions, stabbings, brawls and a drive-by shooting.
When asked how long the delegation from Phnom Penh would remain in the restive seaside city, Mr. Kosal, the provincial police chief, said: “they will stay until the job is finished,” and hung up his phone.

Lets hope the attackers are quickly caught & locked up. Its such a small place, there can't many suspects surely

I don't believe all that is written on TA, but the Koh Rong Dive Centre has some impressive reviews. Must be one of the worst rated places on TA.

Let me see. An island that you can only get to by boat? Might check to see what local fisherman just bought a new moto?
Government delegation? They will leave after visiting all the KTVs and getting all the "tea money" they can extract. If the investigation was real they would start by revoking a lot of Russian's visia's, then get the local police to actually do some patrolling and pulling over crazy drivers, and the military police to stop setting foreigners up for drug busts and the subsequent bribe trail, then actually clean up the Cambodian freshyboy thug element.

Sure, the Russians, corrupt police, and freshy boys are all at fault while the Westerners in Sihanoukville are all victims who are falsely accused in drug busts.

Sounds like Koh Rong is becoming Cambodia's version of Thailand's Koh Tao. One scary crime report (or suspicious death report) after another.

Re: Koh Wrong- again (foreigners attacked)
I know the two guys who ended up in hospital, as they're close friends of the buddies I'm staying with/at here in Snooky. Just wanted to meet one of them the evening before it happened and stay at their place on the island overnight but was too late for the last water taxi. The article on Phnom Penh Daily isn't very accurate and with a bunch of mistakes and false information. The guy with the head injuries is still not doing that good, the other guy is luckily doing better already.
There's been beef going on with some locals nearly right from the beginning when they started their business on the island, but it seemed to have calmed down a bit - were obviously wrong about that. Arrests have been made and the Anti Terrorist Unit seems to be involved in it as well - for whatever reason. Actually, what I heard so far, the police is doing not the worst job this time as at least one of the suspects seems to be a hit.

What other assaults on Westerners have happened on the island ?.Soi Dog wrote:Sounds like Koh Rong is becoming Cambodia's version of Thailand's Koh Tao. One scary crime report (or suspicious death report) after another.
SD - I hope your friends mates recover alright. Is there much trouble between the locals guesthouse owners on Sok San beach, or Koh Rong generally.

Thanks Jay! One of them recovers pretty fast, the other one sadly not.
Can't really say something on the other matter. Don't wanna say too much until the investigations finished.
