I know booze is cheap there but...

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. might be fun, trying out the product n such. Tweakin the mash...

apparently the reflux stills put out a more pure stronger product.
Alas as one page stated ya can't make booze from meat, so no bacon shine.

not sure i'd go that big, I mean the goods to make it cost plenty, especially sugar. I'm sure it's cheaper to buy already made and bottled BUT with fakery being such a BIG thing, and hearing of some of the things used to fake big name boozes, I got to thinking you might avoid going blind or other such stuff by making your own. I spose if you could churn out a few litres a week it would be ok.

at this stage in life I care nothing for the sillyness of brands, flavor snobbery, etc. I would love to be able to come for a stay there with 4 or 5 gallon jugs of 190 proof Everclear. Goes in anything nicely. Depends on your mood or what mixer is in the house. A fifth of this stuff will do me fine for anywhere from a week to a month.

I had planned on getting a 1.5L electric for making some absinthe test batches with local herbs/etc in them. Never got around to it, as shipping the thing over was going to be a fortune. Now I'll likely just bring one back with me when I return. Wouldn't mind making some shine as well... probably a decent demand for it if presented and prepared right. Some shine tastes a lot better than regular commercial booze, like apple pie and such.

I think the risk of producing/concentrating methanol is higher with a homemade still. Off tasting esters can ruin a batch.

Store bought vodka is distilled/carbon filtered 3-4 times for a reason. (using a fractional column still)

just don't isolate.

throw away the heads and the tails, then make sure the rest is all mixed in one bottle before being doled out individually. the antidote for methanol is ethanol. the reason people tend to make whole bottles of methanol is that they bottle right off of the still.

Filter through charcoal to get rid of the fusel oils.

Thankyou, fusel oils was the term I was trying to remember.

Freeze reduction is a safe way to boost alcohol %.
