Kiwi Man Mugged and Robbed in Cambodia, Needs Help

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

So he wasn't bashed, he's just a desperate junkie scammer.
Kiwis should start up a GoFundMe to send him home then. Not a good look for NZ - though he's a perfect fit for riverside. ;)
He probably has no passport and is sleeping on the streets, so Immigration should be along shortly.
Stay tuned. Lol.

I have some (very little) sympathy for him, he looks like a wreck. But so uncool to scam the locals here and play on people's good will. And he needs to be sent home before his situation (inevitably) gets worse.

He might be “desperate” and a “junky” but at least he is openly asking for help in broad daylight, better than being a desperate junky with a knife in his hands and a tshirt tied around his face robbing people at knifepoint

God help him then. British embassy standard opening line is
"the answer is no, now what was the question?"

There is also a young french guy walking around on riverside and 172 with a similar story. Quite a nice guy but he is doing it for quite a while.

Based on this post below, I assumed that people have tried to help, and the guy doesn't want help. That's fine, but there's no point trying to help people if they don't want help.
Not all junkies go around robbing people at knifepoint btw. That's some sort of cliche.

That was very good of you.

The point being is that for all his sins and problems and past he seems like a decent good hearted fellow in need of methadone which is available here now, also, he was targeted at the airport most likely got into a special tuk tuk that took that famous "wrong turn" down the alley and was immediately jumped by two thieves and miraculously he was saved by another thief who appeared on the scene to "help" then this poor Kiwi, his name is Paul btw got his money sent in and it was stolen from him while he slept by the infamous "friend" that appeared on the scene to help at the first robbery. The infamous friend that helped him out is now off the streets as of this writing and with his record, will likely be deported. If you come into KOW weak and expect to survive with your dole from your country its not likely you will make it, unfortunately for Paul he never had an ounce of luck since his arrival. He was prey for the wicked and the wicked are numerous and hungry for prey. I cannot help him anymore.

How is he keeping his habit going? Heroin is relatively expensive here.
Using one of those new synthetic "analgesic" opioids maybe??
WHy does he want to stay? he would have a much easier time scoring or getting onto the dreaded ugly methadone back home.
Hanging out, stone broke and alone in Phnom Penh. Poor bastard.
