Hey all

I am currently in Cambodia with a group of 15 high school students from Australia and am keen to take them along to one of the TV stations in PP to watch some kickboxing on Thursday, Friday or Saturday before we leave next Sunday. Can anyone tell me when and where the fights are on? I've previously been to the one at CTV(?) basically straight down the riverside for about 8km, but I thought that only had fights on a Sunday?

They have fights on Saturdays there, as well.

At Bayon TV, in Steung Meanchey, Street 371 (Same as Sola Street), on Fridays at 7pm, Saturdays at 3pm, and Sundays at 6pm.

For anyone who is thinking of going, KNOW THIS:

1) They have sections for VIP seating for barang only. They are all free, as is the searing for Khmer, but they generally don't let Khmer sit in the VIP area! But of course there are a few unscrupulous people who will try to make money off your ignorance by telling you they can get you VIP seating for a certain amount per person.

2) The fights are rigged, just a tiny sliver of the corruption in Cambodia. It really ruins the feeling of going to a 'fight' and you see how bad the acting is when a kid mysteriously falls down and seemingly can't even move for minutes after getting hit with nothing more powerful than a 3- month old could do. Don't believe me? Go then, and come back and tell me I was wrong.

If that's your kind of entertainment, have at it.

3) If you arrive early, cans of beer are 2000 Khmer Riel (50 cents) at the public shops directly across the street (a whopping 5 meters!) from the entrance, where the cheats often sell the cans for $1 or more. Make the 5m walk and teach those people a lesson. They do have a basic patdown security process which generally doesn't allow beer to be taken inside the venue.

You'd be wise to just bring snacks yourself, rather than buy them in front of the venue.

I used to be a regular 3 days a week, because I am passionate about fighting sports, and secondly, at the strong encouragement of one of the security guys who works there, who is a friend of mine. It took several occasions of me walking out of the venue well before the fighting had finished to finally get the point across to the guy I wasn't going to waste my time with that shit. He kept telling me how great the fights are, blah, blah, blah... but he's Khmer.

Having said that, if you know nothing about fighting or competitive spirit and don't care about watching kids take dives, then maybe this is for you. I have had the unfortunate experience of sitting next to many clueless barang (usually women) who want to take selfies with the fighters and think this is some kind of notoriety, who scream absolutely stupid things at stupid times. Needless to say I don't go anymore.

I have 15 Australian high school students with me who I would like to take along for a look, so your description sounds actually pretty good as none of the kids will know anything about the actual fighting. Thanks for laying all that info out for me.

The thai’s Killed my ability to enjoy Muay Thai by charging 10x the price of what locals pay... so whilst it’s fake, still seems more enjoyable than dirty feeling of being ripped off

Go north on Sisowath Quay, the riverside road. After you pass the Japanese bridge, continue about 1500 meters. On your right will be the CNC TV studios.
Kickboxing live is Friday afternoon 5 to 7pm. Saturday from 2:30 to 5pm and 6 to 8pm. Sunday is 8 to 10am and 11 to 1pm and 2 to 5pm.
Get there early to get good seats. It is free. The locals will be very kind to you when you come.
