Khmer Rouge Killing Intellectuals

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Is intelligence inherited?
Short answer: Yes.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4270739/

Interesting thread.
Modern phrenology couched in scientific mumble-jumbo.

Similar arguments were trendy up to World War 2.

The Nazis took it to the extreme and went about trying to eliminate those undesirables - or in this case genetic traits that don’t lead to high intelligence.

Humans naturally rise to what is expected of them. And fall to levels of what is expected of them as well.

Watch the movie ‘stand and deliver’. The math teacher places high expectations on kids expected to fail, and they succeed. Biopic of Jaime Escalante.

If students have low expectations of teachers, then few will rise to be spectacular.
Lol.
Blah blah nazis.
Pop cultural reference.

Not an argument.

Lot of evidence that many personality traits (including intelligence) are moderately to highly heritable. Environment also an important factor.

Back to the topic. Education amd IQ are highly correlated and killing most of your educated people would reduce general mean intelligence of a group. Certainly would reduce a lot of societal infrastructure as well.

People who grow up in Cambodia, then go to France or another Western nation for further education, do not suddenly become much more intelligent.

The Cambodians who went to Australia when they were finished or mostly finished their education, stay like simple Cambodians. They are just living in a better society.

Those who went while babies, or were born in Australia, and start in kindergarten or primary school there, do become better educated, and more intelligent.

You ask questions, you get answers. If you aren't happy with the answers you're getting, you can always go eat a d**k. As simple as that.

I replied to your questions based on my experience. I never pretended to be a scholar of any kind. If you think I was, you must have dropped out of school in 3rd grade.

Your nieces and nephews are not part of your nuclear family. They are someone else's kids.

My life is fine. I don't need to jump off a bridge.

If can't handle answers to your questions without getting your panties wet, maybe should find another forum. My little pony should fit you just right.

I haven't posted on a forum in years but it used to be very bad form to goof on a newbie poster who may or may not have something interesting to say.

It used to get you a vacation for a couple of weeks.

Where is Jamie Lambo when you need him?

If you insist on annoying me Queef, I have no choice but to start calling you the Pussy Fart troll from TOF.

Don't play the newby victim, I could bet you were banned before, probably for being aggressive and rude like above.

Back on topic is good.

Environment must be a huge, overriding factor.
If intelligence is mostly inherited genetics, then there is no reason for parents to push their kids into high quality schools. No reason to desegregate, for example. No reason for spend vast sums on public education, either.

If most of the societal infrastructure is destroyed, aka schools, universities, etc., I believe the mean intelligence of a group will fall because the means of stimulating intelligence is gone.

I always wonder if Cambodians were more intelligent before the Khmer Rouge? Was the average Khmer during the reign of King Sisowath Monivong more intelligent compared to the Khmer now?

Cambodia has been very good at portraying itself as the victim and profited tremendously over the years.

There other countries that have suffered catastrophes but have not worn the permanent mantle of victim hood.

“For the science class, geography, morality-civics and environmental science will no longer be included in the examinations, so students will not learn these subjects. They will say: ‘Why do we need to learn them?’

“The social science class will not have biology, chemistry and physics in their exams … so students will not pay full attention to studying these subjects either and their learning will be weakened,” Mony said.

A number of science subjects were taken off the examination list last year. I have mentioned this before (without a peep of response from any of our teacher members).
Having these subjects devalued by the education system is extremely unfortunate. They are the subjects most likely to train all students minds, not just future scientists and technicians, towards logical thinking - the very thing Cambodia needs most.
Spoiler:
(It make one wonder at the underlying reasons)
