I always wonder why ppl dont take cash with them on travelling, do you really relate on you debit visa card ?
I always take at least 1 thousand or 2, common sense, especially when you go to less developed countries. If you concern about safety just put the cash in your damn shoes ( dont work with flip flop tho )
On a other note this ramon guy sounds like a huge dickhead, " cyber begging " " im free to stand anywhere ", " im emptied the deli of blue pumkin " , instead of buying freaking croissants for the whole prison immigration wing which is most likely composed of nigeria's finest, maybe you can bring the 750 for your kenyan " legal slave " genius.

Before there were credit cards and ATM's in Vietnam and Cambodia, I routinely traveled with 3-5K in cash but I never felt very good. Get pick-pocketed or something and you are farked. These days, I might have 300-500 Dollars in cash; there are ATM's everywhere and credit cards are accepted everywhere.

actually it does, if u cut open exactly where the they glued the soles tgt, u will find that it is mostly empty inside, use a penknife to carve out the depth n size of a us dollar bill, 1 sole cld fit abt 12k of 100$ bills easily, a pair these flip flops, 24k easily, seeing they r flip flops, they dont go thru x ray
Money is not the problem, the problem is no money

Now just imagine the Jows of Phnom Penh get wind that every person of color (for now) is coming in with at least $1000 in cold hard cash, they'll be queuing up outside the airport to relieve them of it.

And not the first country to do it either. pick almost any developed nation you like, they are all at it. However I think we might be jumping the gun here. I seem to remember that you need a work visa and work permit to be a volunteer as it is unpaid work, not tourism. Think that was in the original fubar a few years ago when the work permit thing kicked off. Second is there are a lot of Africans being scammed and charged a lot of money to come here allegedly for high paying work. Kenya was one of the main targets along with Ethiopia. it was all over the papers last year, and they have no way of getting home. If she is volunteering she should have a return ticket and sufficient funds for her trip.hanno wrote: ↑Mon Jul 16, 2018 12:44 pmThis!angkorjohn wrote: ↑Mon Jul 16, 2018 12:41 pmAs I say they should apply this rule to plenty of the western bums who come through here would save a lotta hassle later.
Regrettably not the first time someone has been asked to show cash because he/she had the wrong kind of sun tan.
Finally it is always up to the immigration officer to decide if you represent a risk, regardless of whether or not you already have a visa. Just watch border patrol to see Australians and Americans denying entry for all sorts of spurious reasons.
Should not jump to conclusions without knowing the full facts. I was refused a business visa t siem reap a few years ago with no reason given and I am white. I couldn't even get him to take a service payment so I had to fly out and back into PP

I'm guessing it ain't money you've been stashing in your thick soled jandals when you go through customs and immigration.bolueeleh wrote: ↑Wed Jul 18, 2018 8:30 amactually it does, if u cut open exactly where the they glued the soles tgt, u will find that it is mostly empty inside, use a penknife to carve out the depth n size of a us dollar bill, 1 sole cld fit abt 12k of 100$ bills easily, a pair these flip flops, 24k easily, seeing they r flip flops, they dont go thru x ray
Despite what angsta states, it’s clear from reading through his posts that angsta supports the free FreePalestine movement.

I call bullshit. Shoes including flip flops are checked on airports. It's just that nobody gives a shit if you stashed $24,000 in your flip flops. Carrying cash isn't illegal but you are normally required to declare larger amounts but you don't do that passing through security. It's not a crime it's just stupid.

I kinda agree, as far as I knew most of the "workaway" volunteers just come on tourist visa (never heard of all this letter of invitation bull to work at a cinema). Those I have met were often coming from having spent a week or so in Siem Reap or the coast two a one or two week stint then on with their travels. Which I think is perfectly legal.pczz wrote: ↑Wed Jul 18, 2018 9:31 amAnd not the first country to do it either. pick almost any developed nation you like, they are all at it. The fact that this lady was armed with all her "documents" I would speculate is probably what set immigration onto her "you're here as a tourist and you are waving some letter saying you are invited to work as a volunteer"
Had she just walked in with a tourist visa and said no more then I would think there would have been no issue - was it confirmed it was a tourist visa? However if she had an EO and she had a letter saying she was here to work as a volunteer in a cinema with $250 to her name that might have also set off red flags.
Either way, whilst i respect the cinema owner for taking a stand and trying to help this lady he has possibly picked the wrong fight....I'd understand if it was his girlfriend but for a 3 week volunteer seems odd to kick off such a stink accusing authorities of XYZ and shining a spotlight on your business at any time, never mind coming up to an election.
He was trying to sell the place (once had 3 venues, 258, 136 and 95) for years. once for $100k if i recall.
in 2015 for $65k (sorry for TOF link but some interesting points raised here: [mod edit: link removed, but thanks for the note, lol.])
posted here for $70k last year, now with just the one venue (god knows what happened to shutting the other two if it was so successful) businesses-for-sale/three-awesome-movie ... 14035.html
now available for $40k for one venue - cyber begging to the max http://www.theflicks.asia/the-flicks-is-for-sale/

More importantly it says
andThe Flicks will face closure soon, unless a new proprietor can be found.
so we can assume that a 1x10 year lease or the 2nd 5 year lease since 2009 is going to expire sometime in 2019. During its closure the owner will probably pick up his beggar backpack and move his ass on to other countries while touting the dictatorial horrors which led him to flee such a paradise as Cambodia where dodgy Kenyans are yelled at by immigration and British scum are chased by German shepherds.existing since 2009
I for one welcome the crackdown on loserism. Go team immigration!

In 2016 The Flicks reportedly screened "I am Chut Wutty", despite it being banned by the Ministry of Fine Arts and Culture. https://www.khmertimeskh.com/news/24103 ... hnom-penh/
In 2018 they screened "A Cambodian Spring", which surely has not yet been banned only because authorities have not yet heard about it. http://www.theflicks.asia/a-cambodian-spring/
Incitement, violation of cultural bans, tax evasion, labor law violations, interference in immigration matters and harassment of officials. Anything else?
